Any suggestions on where to find cotton mens hunt shirts?
I do like the horse country ones, but they are $160 and there must be other options. Shires ones are OK in winter but are pretty heavy.
Anybody got a source for banded collar men’s shirts not aimed at horses?
For cubbing season I just wear a standard mens white oxford shirt. For the formal season it is a white turtleneck. I could buy 5 for the price of one from horse country.
I suppose that’s an option too, but I own more stock ties than regular ties nowadays.
This is an easy fix --buy a men’s shirt in your size —Men’s shirts are measured by collar and sleeve length --personally, I take a 14 x 34. !4 inch neck, 34 inch sleeve. Take shirt home. Cut off collar at where collar meets collar band. Cut neatly. Then I zigzag stitch across collar band to prevent fraying, but you could just put on a stock tie and call it good. Sometimes, I just put on my 4 fold stock tie and don’t even cut off the collar. One cannot see the collar points under a four-fold stock tie. Actually, you could wear a red, white and blue sports bra with no shirt at all under a four fold stock tie and no one would see it. But in case I ever fall off, and someone would take off my coat and vest, I generally wear a shirt under my four fold stock tie. A four fold stock tie is the proper stock tie to wear. From what I understand about stock ties, only grooms and Americans wear the shaped stock ties with the hole in the back. I like four folds because that’s what I grew up wearing and if you really do need a bandage, four folds are worn with five safety pins and are one solid piece of fabric which makes a tidy wrap up for a broken leg or collar bone.
Hello - I fully sympathize - I would not pay “MSRP” for brand new hunt shirts - I never have, simply because you can get new or mint condition pre-owned ones at Middleburg Tack Exchange in downtown Middleburg. There is a Men’s Dept. (separate room in the back). I’m a woman and the women’s hunt shirts are all $10 during off season and $19 during season. All famous brands represented, incl. the same you would find at Horse Country, Dover, etc.
I have bought on eBay as well, but I find that they tend to still be more expensive even for pre-owned, and you can’t determine the right fit/size, nor actual physical condition from the posted photos.
I love TJ Maxx for inexpensive shirts! I buy men’s shirts for me (I’m a woman) cause you can get neck/sleeve size and I have monkey arms-ha!

I wear a white under armor cold gear shirt. You can’t see any of it under the stock tie anyhow and it’s much more comfortable than cotton when you’ve been sweating and then stand around cooling off.
Thanks. I actually bought a couple of different H&M shirts after posting this. One was great. One was saggy baggy all over including the neck and cuffs so did not really work. I tried to order a couple more of the one I liked but they had both been discontinued. Maybe I need to order, try on, then reorder what works quickly.
I got an essex shirt at Horse and Hound, Flint Hill, Va. Mens large. Not sure of the price but I know it was under $100.00 and I like it quite a bit and it is a real hunt riding shirt. That being said I usually ride in a linen Horse Country shirt from Middleburg Tack Exchange.
