Where to get Silky and/or Frizzle Chickens NOT Bantams

Hi All!

I have had no success googling for frizzle chickens on the web. Seems everybody has them as bantams but none in standard sizes. Even Silkies are hard to find. I’m looking for hatching eggs for my grandkids to hatch out this spring in their new incubator , but I guess I could just order some chicks when it warms up in May. Not near as much fun as hatching eggs. Nor as educational.

If anyone knows of a breeder who has standard size Frizzles or Silkies, can you post it?

Get on Facebook and search “BYC Backlot” - lots and lots of people on there, someone will know.

I love Murray McMurray hatchery for pet-quality birds. They also sell hatching eggs.

Also try eggbid.com-I’ve used the site many times.

Silkies are full-size birds. They’re sometimes listed with bantams because they’re naturally smaller than many other breeds.

Frizzles aren’t a breed, it’s a feather mutation found in many breeds, including Pekins, Polish and others. It also doesn’t breed true. About quarter of the eggs will yield regular chicks.

Good luck with your search!

I have frizzle cochins that I plan on breeding next year…they are about 6 or 7 months old now. Black. I call them my poodle chicks. And yes, I plan on breeding the frizzle rooster to the smooth (but frizzle genes) hen. You cannot breed frizzle to frizzle…they are born without any or much feathering.
