Where to sell Breyer horses?

All the threads I was able to find seemed to recommend eBay, but they are also several years old. Since then, it seems like people generally are falling out of love with eBay.

Does eBay still reign for selling Breyers, or have sales migrated elsewhere in recent years? At least one of the models has some value to it, so getting it in front of serious buyers is a consideration.

I believe if you google, there are Breyer model sale web pages. I would almost bet there are FaceBook pages as well.

this may be a good time to thing about selling as the Breyer horsefest happens in June or July

My stepdaughter sold many of hers via Ebay and got great prices, but that was 2 years ago.

It is haunted by active collectors. And you can get an idea of what prices are being offered for various models in an active market. eBay can help with that as well, but only based on models that actually sold. Some sellers over-price their models, and those don’t sell.

That is the page I used to sell all my breyer horses.

I have had a lot of luck with the Model Horse Sales Page on Facebook as well.

Thanks everyone!

So on this topic…I’m searching that website for a few of mine that I remember by name. Nothing coming up (I’m finding other horses of the same mold, but not my actual model). Does that mean it’s not that popular? Or does that indicate that NO ONE has any so if I were to list it, it would be valuable?

Please post their names, I can ID them for you.

I run a FB group called “What is my Breyer Worth?” and admin a sales group. There are MANY groups on FB for selling, but a lot of kids hang out there.

Best place for selling is the Model Horse Sales Pages. eBay is good but the kill you with fees. FB is also great, once you weed through the tire kickers…

I have a couple that are signed by the designer. Does that help value at all? I have a pretty big collection that has been collecting dust at my dad’s house for over 15 years now. Maybe I should sell some the next time I visit and can get pictures. I live too far away to take them all…thought I’d eventually move back east and get things like that and a bunch of books. He is thankfully ok hanging onto them…something about being devastated when his mom gave away his baseball card collection.

Thanks, I’ll PM you!

Some are worth more, depending on who signed them, but most collectors don’t really care.

I guess it’s time to catalog my collection and start to sell some. I didn’t want to do that before my dad died, since he gave me most of them. I’ve enjoyed mine a lot and some have seen rough play. I have over 150. Phew.

These selling ideas are very helpful.

is there much marker for the RRH (re-done) models? Or are most collectors only interested in the discontinued Original Finish models?

If they are vintage there is a BIG following for them. I won’t say market, they aren’t going for big prices but there is a group of collectors that love these old guys and give them a loving home. Even if they aren’t pristine. They have even held shows for these moldy oldies!

I have a number of Breyers from the 1970s, in very good condition. I thought they were worthless :). Are they actually worth anything?

Well done customs are also valuable, and even beaten up models are worth something as “bodies” to people who customize. Poorly done customs really only have value as bodies. Really depends on what you have and who is looking. MHSP is a great resource.

I need to sell my “herd” too. Most of my older ones are fodder for the customizers but I’ve got several from the late '90s still in the box. Have a lovely dapple gray Welsh pony custom made (Armana) but my senile dog tried to snack on it and tore part of the mane off. Lots of tack too. I had a friend that was big into showing model horses and also made custom tack. She used to make stuff for me all the time.

Many are. many aren’t… depends on what you have.

The Amarna can be fixed, and yes, Liz is on the Vintage FB group!
