Where to Sell Saddles?

Is Fine Used Saddles really not taking consignments anymore? There is a note on their website stating this, and I called, left a message, and never heard back.

This has been my go-to place to sell my saddles, and I could really use some suggestions on how to best market the two I currently need to sell.

Pony has become too wide for his two Stackhouse saddles–a dressage and jump saddle, both monoflaps and medium wide to wide trees that fit a nice variety of horses. I’ve advertised locally and on Facebook but no bites despite great pricing. I’m at a loss. :frowning:

New saddle is coming in 2 weeks (Tad Coffin dressage with A5 tree) and I would really like to get these sold as soon as possible. It breaks my heart because they are lovely but round ponies are round ponies!

Any help much appreciated!

Check with Rachel at Iselltack.com. She helped sell one of my saddles very fast. I’ve also worked with Nicole at MD Tack Exchange and Patricia with High End Used Saddles. All 3 have been great, but I would start with Rachel.

Also check with David. He has people ask him for used saddles not infrequently.

English Tack Trader on Facebook worked for my dressage saddle. I also have heard Sport Horse Nation was a hit or miss but Stackhouse saddles are usually in demand by eventers. Also check out the USEA area classifieds.

Definitely check wtih David. He’s also good about spreading the word about available used saddles to people who have purchased saddles from him - so when they get asked about their Stackhouse, they can pass on the word about the used saddles.

I just sold my used stackhouse on ebay and evidently listed it as 18" which i thought it was but it is 17"? I did NOT see the measurements on the flap anywhere so am not sure where the new owner is getting this. I certainly didn’t mean to deceive. I wonder if he’s nutty and is somehow measuring it wrong or if i’m just a complete dope. If the latter, I’d ask him just to ship it directly to consignment rather than back to me. so, glad to seed the tips above and then, where on earth is the seat size on these saddles?

I sold my Stackhouse on Sporthorsenation.com the day it listed.

You measure saddles from the button by the pommel to the center of the cantle. Not all saddles have the seat size stamped on the flap.

He may have been measuring center of pommel to center of cantle like a Western saddle. I think that is good for taking off an inch of size. Or he didn’t like it and wants an excuse to return it.

I have given up on Ebay as a seller. I think that most of the buyers there are nuts these days (except for me  ). I have good luck with Middleburg Tack.

I sold two very nice, high end saddles through facebook groups. I didn’t allow trials, so I sold the saddles below what the consignment websites were asking. Since I didn’t have to pay any fees other than the 3% paypal fee, I made more money off of both sales than I would have by sending them on consignment.

There is an “Eventing Horses and Tack for Sale” group, where I found a buyer for my monoflap, as well as “High End English Tack”, which specifically allows stackhouse saddles.

I love to buy stuff on English Tack Trader, but I find that, as a seller, my posts get bumped down the page very quickly.

For what it’s worth I saw this thread and went to Middleburg Tack Exchange and they just so happened to have the exact dressage saddle I need to fit both me and my horse. So darn you all!

NB: I have purchased a saddle from them before so I’d recommend them.

I have bought a couple of saddles from Middleburg Tack Exchange and have been very pleased with their selection, the prices, the low shipping costs and the honest representation of their inventory.
