Where to sell used show clothes?

Hi,

I have a number of new/ like new show clothes I need to sell and was hoping for some suggests on where to sell them.

I know about:

Ebay - never personally had much luck selling anything on it.

Facebook pages - my clothes are listed but with the amount of traffic on the pages my ads disappear within an hour.

Any suggestings would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Maryland Saddlery, Middleburg Tack Exchange.

I’ve had great experiences with Middleburg Tack Exchange. On that note, does anyone know if they take full-seat breeches?

Horsemans Outlet in NJ. I have had great success selling show clothes, saddles, horse blankets/sheets there. They take a commission but I believe it is smaller if you use the money from the sold items to purchase stuff from them! I hope that helps!

I sell clothes very quickly on the Facebook pages, but you have to stay on top of it. I also have good luck with this site http://www.horsegroomingsupplies.com/horse-forums/
Did you post in the English Riding Apparel page? Have a lot of photos and all info (size, measurements, brand etc) It seems to be very common for FB ads to basically have no info. Bump up your ad often. If it is dressage clothing also put on the Dressage tack and clothing pages. Price them appropriately.

They do, indeed. Middleburg has a hearty eventing population. I’ll be scouting MTE for a pair of whites before next season.

I too have show clothes I’ve been unable to sell. Everything is brand new except for a pair of TS breeches. I’ve had everything on ebay for quite a while and I’ve listed on multiple facebook pages to no avail. It doesn’t help probably that my stuff is on the child/small adult size range. But even listing in the kid section hasn’t netted nothing. I’d rather not send it all out on consignment since I’m trying to lose as little money as possible. When I price my stuff I research to see what other things like it are going for so it’s not over priced and I’ve even dropped the price more from there over time. Everything is new but I know that I’m not going to get new prices for it but I’m not going to practically give it away to sell it quickly either!

The Chronicle has or used to have a “for sale” forum. I sold Edgewood stuff through that forum.

Chronicle no longer has a sale forum. English Tack Trader and Horses Sales and Stuff are good on FB if you keep an eye on your post and keep bumping items up. Size and price may be your problem (or even description). I’ve been able to sell lightly used Ariat breeches, snap collar show shirts, and half pads well. I wasn’t able to sell a high end RJ show coat in size 4L or my saddle, people wanted these items much cheaper than what to me was reasonable for the qualiy. The saddle went to iselltack.com and my coat sold for a great price at equineexchangepa.com but both took a few months to sell, and at the consignment store I only get store credit so I lose less $$. Ultimately I was happy because I used the credit to buy a brand new One K in matte black so I pretty much traded something that I didn’t want for something I did.

As far as marketing your stuff online… what key words are you using to describe your items? Do they have stretchy technical fabric? Machine wash? If it is something that people may not know the original price, I usually include that so people know the original retail value v. what you are asking so they feel like they’re getting a good deal. Also, if it is anything other than TS Trophy Hunters, provide measurements and size comparisions so people know wha to to expect.

How about making a list and mailing it to local show/lesson barns and Pony Clubs?? And also post the list at area tack stores.
