Where to send dressage saddles on consignment these days?

Although there are numerous threads on this subject they are a few years old and it seems like things have changed a bit.

I have 2 older but high-end saddles to sell and can’t effectively market them myself. I know I need to send them on consignment but in my local consignment shop the saddles are stacked five saddles high gathering dust and sent on trial without a deposit. Proper care of the saddles and communication are important to me. Great photography for online sales is a huge plus, too - when something is presented well, it sells quicker and for more money, but many online used shops use quick snapshots taken in dimly lit stores. Not so appealing, especially when one of my saddles is a Schleese - they’re a dime-a-dozen used, so mine needs to stand out.

Fine Used Saddles has been my favorite but she isn’t taking many saddles these days. Are there any consignment shops that I should avoid, and any that are stellar and professional? Anywhere in the US is ok.

Edit: DFW Tack Exchange looks very nice (and new?). Anyone have experience with them?

Thanks in advance!

We have a good consignment here in Ocala - Good Apple Equine Consignment. She is on facebook. She advertises on the web. I have bought and sold through her.

I haven’t dealt with DFW. If you were willing to send your saddle back east, VTO Saddlery takes good pictures and is well known to eventers and H/J people in Virginia.

I consigned a pair of boots through them and had a good experience.

Last month I sold a County Connection on consignment at Pelham Saddlery. They sold it in about 2 months.

I had a very positive experience with Fine Used Saddles.

I sold my used Verhan saddle through Good Apple Equine Consignment in Ocala. They were very professional and it went quickly!

I have sold two high end saddles via consignment at Skylands Saddlery in New Jersey. They move a lot of dressage saddles, and have loyal customers. The shop is located in a very dressage-y area of New Jersey and they also run a busy and efficent e-bay store. I would use them again.

I have to say that I think their commission is too high (increased to 30% during 2016), whereas I think the standard commission is more like 25%. However, now my saddle is not sitting in my garage anymore and it was sold in two weeks by Skylands.

I just ordered a saddle for trial from Patricia at yoursaddles.com. No experience with consigning one with her but I can tell you she answered my questions very quickly and even suggested a different saddle based on what I was looking for. She seems knowledgeable and has nice, clear pictures on the website. It is not Fine Used Saddles for sure but, as a buyer, it has been a pleasant experience.

Great experiences with Trumbull Mountain. It seems that Pelham is getting pretty big and having a lot of turnover in their used saddles. Which is great if you’re selling!

I’ve given up on consigning saddles after having both high-end and mid-level saddles sit in shops for well over a year. Instead, I recently sold a couple on ebay. The prices I got on my saddles were not much less than what I would’ve received in stores after paying consignment fees, and it was low hassle. Sold, paid, shipped, gone.

Consider yourself lucky. There are lots of threads on here from people who were burned badly by buyers on eBay I personally like Pelham Saddlery.

I got a good price for my used Verhan from Pelham - but it did take over a year.

Do you think they’d be any good with a dressage saddle that could be used as an endurance saddle? (more forward flaps)

Most people are just selling them through Facebook these days.
