Where to send our yearling?

Hi COTH’ers

We have a yearling sport horse filly, imported from Europe as a weanling. She has spent the last 6 months with several similar youngsters who were imported with her and has received excellent care and age-appropriate training (daily grooming, hoof care, in the barn at night, learning manners to lead, walking across poles and other fun in-hand exercises from time to time) with her ‘kindergarten’ classmates.

However, her current and excellent farm needs to lighten their load of outside youngsters to accommodate their homebreds, so we need to find our girl a new situation for the next year or two. She is currently in New York and we would like to keep her within a day or so of that area to continue to play/learn/grow up.

Any suggestions for young horse programs? Must have pasture, friends, and daily handling. Bonus if the farm presents youngsters in young horse inspections/in-hand classes, and big bonus if the farm starts 2 year olds in harness.

Please post or PM me with any suggestions on great ‘elementary school’ programs for young horses in the New York/PA/OH/MI area.

Many thanks!

Not sure what you mean by within a day of NY but my young horses go to Magic Hill Farm in Honey Brook PA.

Thank you. Has there been a change at Magic Hill? No recent social posts and no website, only Facebook. Their program is what we’re looking for…

Last I heard, Hilltop Farm in Maryland had a “raising” department. Essentially on the PA border.

You’d have no problem reaching them to ask, I would think.

No there has been no change. They have a wonderful program, I couldn’t recommend them more. That said, they definitely cater towards showing in hand so if that isn’t something you are interested in it may be overkill.
Hilltop has a great program too but I don’t think they take outside horses.

Pine Creek Sport Horses in Newtown, PA, does everything you’re looking for. Karen Pound’s young horse school is amazing and her team is exceptional.

We have space in Kentucky and with other yearling fillies. We also do keuring prep and start under saddle.
