You can pick up a hackney pony fairly cheap, there is an auction end of the March. Robertson’s I believe. Generally they are easy keepers and hardy little shits that love to play.
I would still check with a rescue to what they have available and you could probably foster.
Horses and ponies are still spending upwards of 20 hours a day all alone if they aren’t part of a herd. Unless you ride a real lot.
