Where to stay in Kentucky for Maclay Finals?

Looks like we are headed there late October for Maclay Finals! woot!
Any recommendations for good hotels or houses to rent for a week or so?

You can find just about any brand of hotel in the Lexington area from Marriott to Motel 6. The Marriott Griffin Gate is one of the closer ones to the horse park, there is also an Embassy Suites at the same exit. Check on AAA for a map with all the hotels and go from there, Lexington has something to suit every price range.

We stated at the Clarion. We were disappointed b/c the room was suppose to be non-smoking but it smelled like smoke. There was some kind of party going on and they were making all kinds of noise until like 3 AM inside and out in the parking lot. We stayed just up Rt75 in Georgetown at the comfort inn for horse show we did at the KHP and that was nice. Rooms were comfortable, clean and they had a hot breakfast included-price <$100/night but comparable to rooms I’ve had for more $. It was about 10-15 min from KHP depending on how fast you drive. And there are several places to eat dinner near there.

Sorry for any typos-my non smart iPhone and I don’t always agree with each other

Georgetown is only one exit further up on the 75 so I would go to trip advisor or a similar site to ask. I think that the Embassy Suites is fine they are located off Newtown Pike which is a similar distance to Georgetown. Unfortunately neither is really in Lexington and you may miss some really neat things that city has to offer unless you plan a fun dinner or play day there .

we stayed at the Fairfield Inn on Hackney Place for pony finals and it was great. Very nice, clean, very inexpensive.

Book the embassy suites now if it’s not sold out. We made the mistake of waiting until 2 weeks before PF to book a hotel and all the close decent ones were sold out.

I’ve had nothing but a pleasant time at the Clarion in Lexington. Nothing special, but nothing wrong either. The free hot breakfast is nice as well.

Ditto.

I’ve also had good experiences at the Holiday Inn Express in Georgetown, and the Four Points Sheraton right near the Fairfield Inn.

The Knights Inn on that street, not so much.

But the Knights Inn is such an adventure:lol:. Really, don’t stay there.

OP, congratulations. Lexington is not very big and anything off I75 at the Georgetown exit, Hampton, Country something, Best Western ( nice newer one), Microtel, Fairfield, Super 8 etc is really convenient…think it’s exit126. KHP is exit 120, I think.

I usually stay down at exit 112, Man O War where there’s another group of hotels, Hyatt Place, Homewood Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Courtyard and so on across from a big outdoor mall with restaurants, movies etc. No more then 15 minutes to the KHP. They usually have availability after the ones closer to KHP fill up…not that they are very far, people don’t know about them.

I would caution if you stay in central Lexington, downtown, it will take a little longer and you may get caught in the Rupp arena traffic if the UK Wildcats basketball team is playing at home.

Have fun.

One year I stayed at the Gratz Park Inn, a luxury hotel with reproductions antique period furnishings. I loved my big four poster bed, but was a bit disappointed that it did not offer room service although there was a setup int he lobby for tea/coffee and some snacks, help yourself. If you want to treat yourself to something a little bit special I would recommend it. I have also stayed at the Sunset Motel I think? The one right outside the horse park, used to be a real dump but clean enough, I think it was bought and renovated since the last time I was there (2005 maybe?).

I always recommend to people coming in for shows to stay at the Marriott Residence right off New Circle at Harrodsburg Rd. Good rates, great rooms/suites, free breakfast. It’s slightly farther away, but easy access to New Circle still makes it easy to get to and from the Horse Park. There’s also a Marriott Courtyard and a few other hotels nearby. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/lexke-residence-inn-lexington-keeneland-airport/

Like the Clarion. We go for Jump Start Horse Trials, and Haygard Midsouth. They have always given us a competitors rate, which is much cheaper than the websites.

If you’re looking to make a trip of it, we stayed at http://www.rosehillinn.com in Versailles, KY once on vacation in the area. Its not super close to KHP (probably 20-30 mins?) but a lovely inn and beautiful town.

The Fairfield Inn was heavily damaged in an explosion recently…doubt anyone is going to be staying there anytime soon. http://www.wkyt.com/home/headlines/Fire-crews-on-scene-of-fire-at-the-Lexington-Fairfield-Inn--274279061.html
