As others have mentioned Maryland is indeed very horse friendly and hosting the only other 5* in the US this October! Im about 45 minutes from Washington DC in Montgomery County and within 30min to 40 minutes I can get to at least 3 horse trial venues, an hour or so gets me to several in Northern Virginia.
I would see if Maryland could offer any thing in your job field.
