Hello, I am new here and thought I would ask for some advice. I would like to breed from my mare and have short listed some stallions. I would like to improve on her movement (walk), must have a quick hind leg and excellent temperament. So, does anyone have any experience of the following stallions? 1. Benetton Dream 2.San Amour 3. Furstenball 4. Ampere.

A good conformation shot of your mare and her pedigree/produce information (if any) would help as well as more indepth information about her gaits and temperment/level of dressage she has achieved. It’s impossible to recommend based on the information provided in my modest opinion.

Why not choose a stallion who is already proven at Grand Prix? They you know he’s got a good walk, a quick hind leg, a great work ethic and excellent soundness? None of the horses on your list are proven.

Pedigree information would be useful too, as there are known nicks as well as crosses to avoid. In my experience you can’t expect a stallion to produce a grand prix horse if the mare does not have the tendency to deliver the necessary qualities too. A weak walk and slow hind leg do not necessarily indicate she has the athletic quickness to do piaffe, passage and one tempi changes. If your breeding goal is a low/middle level horse then you have more room for discussion.
Agree on Benneton Dream. Furstenball also has a very good walk too.
The S line generally doesn’t have that great of walks. And in the videos that I have seen Ampere doesn’t have all that good of a walk.

Just to add, the S line isn’t known for having a quick hind leg either.
My mare had a 2010 colt by Benetton Dream. He has an exceptional walk and is very active behind. He has a great temperament. You can see his inspection video on youtube Baylen Dream TWF. He received a Premium award.

Having problems uploading pics. My mare is Sir Lui x Wendekreis. I meant that I would like to improve on her movement generally, particularly her walk. She doesnt have a particularly slow hind leg, I would just like a stallion to have a quick hind leg to improve her. She is a 16hh maiden mare (and quite fine) so not sure what sort of stock she would produce, hence the variety of stallions! I feel like a kid in a sweet shop!
BTW, Ampere got an 8 for his walk during stallion testing.
I am not familiar with Sir Lui. Could you provide us with some info about him? Since your mare is maiden, and you don’t have any idea about what she produces, I would be more inclined to breed her to an older, well established stallion so that you will have a better idea of what traits he passes on. If you breed a maiden mare to a young up and comer stallion, it’s really hard to predict what you are going to get. In general (of course there are always exceptions), the Sandro Hit line is not known for having a great walk and Rubinstein line is known for a slower hind leg, so I wouldn’t look in either of those directions. Donnerhall and sons are known for dressage ability at the FEI levels, substance and good temperament and good hind ends. There are many Donnerhall line stallions available both fresh and frozen to choose from. How about De Niro? He competed successfully at GP himself and has produced loads of international GP horses. Dacaprio is also a favorite of mine. Weltmeyer and sons generally throw a very good hind end, as well as some substance. Wolkentanz II is in Canada and is a wonderful producer. His brother Wolkentanz I is available frozen, very affordable and very good fertility. The horse with the best walk I ever owned was by Wolkentanz I. Let us know what you decide.
For an ideal walk, I would use LA Baltic Sun (SWANA); also proven a number of times over (himself and offspring).
I think that Walnut Farm’s stallion is special and we are very lucky that she has brought him here.
Based on your list of “wants” for your mare, namely the walk and quick hind leg, the only two on your list that do are Benetton Dream and Fuerstenball. I have seen offspring of BD and really like what I have seen. He seems to be consistant in what he throws.
Based on your mare’s pedigree(looking at the Wendekreiss) I would be careful about selecting a stallion that throws a lot of substance.
Furstenball is a super looking horse in person. I am thinking of which of my mares to put him top as I like him quite a lot.
I agree with Forte, try looking at a Donnerhall son for most of your needs. Donates who compets at the PSG level is wonderful as is DaCaprio. Don Principe is a direct Donnerhall son who is successful at Grand Prix. Those are fresh for the USA. There are many more available frozen.

Wendekreis as dam sire? I have a mare by Wendenburg by Wendekreis and Winter is 30 years old.

Her sire,Sir Lui is Oldenburg, a graded son of Silvio, and the mare is very like him. Oakstable - Wendekreis has a son also called Wendekreis, so perhaps this explains the timeline! Appreciate all the input, thanks!

A couple of thoughts. Benetton Dream is quite big - don’t know if that is a concern for your 16h maiden mare. San Amour and your mare’s sire both go back to Sandro. That could also be a consideration. As for Ampere - you know he has gone to Sweden, correct? Can you easily get fresh semen in Belgium from Sweden?
I hadn’t heard that Ampere had gone to Sweden, but dont think it would be a problem to get chilled from there. I am gradually narrowing it down. I seem to make a decision and then worry there might be something better suited out there! Decisions, decisions! Marrying off children will be much easier than this!
