Which Poulin feed for easy keeper

Amino Trace is a good forage balancer to try  And itā€™s totally appropriate to toss in a handful/cup of the ONE for flavor/mixing.

I do the exact same with my 3 :slightly_smiling_face: for that exact reason.

Argh. This (still) makes me nuts. When my mare was too heavy to get a ration balancer in the recommended amount, plus Purina Outlast (which helps with ulcer-proneness), I switched to High Point Grass pellets so she would get a complete serving of vitamins and minerals. At some point I added TriAmino for the extra lysine, since HPG doesnā€™t have a lot.

Unfortunately, I had to pay for the High Point on my own, which is I guess where the ā€œhandfulā€ of feed comes from. The barn did pay for the Outlast, though.

Now thatā€™s sheā€™s moved, and outside 24/7, sheā€™s lost enough weight that sheā€™s back on a ration balancer at the minimum recommended serving, along with her Outlast. And now the RB is included in my board, but the Outlast is not.

Just an update, I got the Amino Trace 2 days after ordering and little mare gobbled some right out of my hand. Iā€™ve got her on a half serving twice a day and she eats it without complaint. I did notice a little loose stool this AM so I think Iā€™ll keep her on this amount and watch the manure for a few days; Iā€™m guessing sheā€™ll adjust pretty quickly.

Sheā€™s still getting about 1/2 cup of the TC Gold Balancer at each meal as a mixer; Iā€™ve also weaned off the elevate powder and onto the capsules without issue. Waiting for the mag to ship but not in any great rush.

Coming on late here. I hope you were able to resolve your feed issue. No one here mentioned Poulin E tec carb safe soft pellet. I read that it is very good if you have an easy keeper or a horse prone to IR or metabolic issues. I also read it would be better than the ration balancer which would have more calories! Fyi, in case you are interested. Love Poulin. Brand grain. I have been searching for the best grain for my overweight metabolic pony, and I have not found anything better than the etec carb safe which I am already using. You can find it on the Poulin site if you are interested in learning more about it. Your daughter has a beautiful horse!

As-fed, every regular feed has more calories than a ration balancer. The Carb Safe is a minimum of 4lb for a 1000lb horse, and even if itā€™s a weirdly low calorie content of 1000 cal/lb (itā€™s not), thatā€™s still 4000 calories. TC Balancer is among the lower cal balancers (a few are lower) but itā€™s still 1266
