Which Trainers are at Yarmouth Stables, West Grove PA these days?

Just wondering. I know the facility was for sale in 2012, then heard that it sold. Does anyone know which barns are based there now if any?

Eventer Ronald Zabala-Goetschel now owns that property.

Last I heard it is a private facility now, he is the only one in there. Not sure why an Eventer would have bought it. Great H/J set up but IMO doesn’t have the property that would suite for Event training.

I had heard he was planning on running a rehab program as well.

Yes, you all were right. While it should be a great facility for the new owner, I’m selfishly a little disappointed that it is no longer a hunter barn. There appear to be very few large hunter barns left in that immediate area that offer board and training…I rode at the old Greenfields E.C. off of Pennock Bridge Rd as a kid and that one is gone too.

It looks like the former Yarmouth Stables is now called Wiseguy’s Farm. From the Wise Equestrian website:

“Wise Equestrian Saddles has officially relocated to our beautiful new farm in Southern Chester County! We have consolidated all of our business operations to the Wiseguys’ Farm, where we will base our Wise Equestrian sales and showroom, plus our equine rehab and conditioning operation.Wiseguys’ Farm is a competition, rehab and breeding operation which features a conditioning center with a water walker, jacuzzi, large hot walker with rubber shavings and rubber matts, laser therapies as well as other a la carte services for long term treatment options”

I read somewhere (some eventing board?) that the new owner suffered a head injury in a fall in his home, then rode perhaps too soon during the recovery process, and had some setbacks. I haven’t seen any advertising for the farm for rehab services, etc. yet.

I also rode at Greenfields as a kid…and two summers ago taught a class the now tech school. So weird to be on the property. Pixie Gilles old place in Hockessin is also a ghost town, I go to the gym across the street and I am always sad that it isn’t a farm anymore even though all the traffic would probably be terrible for horses.

The Hannums place is still in Nottingham though and Farideh farm is newish but right down 796 in Cochranville.

My daughters and I rode at Greenfields years ago as well. When I lived in West Chester, I rode at Blue Rock Farm. Louise Serio owns Derby Downs and is in Kennett Square off of Route 82 and Hillendale Road. Ellen McGregor used to work for Louise and is at Crebilly Farms off 926. When Louise goes to Florida, Ellen moves to Derby Downs as it has an indoor then moves back to Crebilly when WEF is over.

We board and train with Laurie Jakabauskis (LRJ Stables) at Vicmead off Route 52 in Northern Delaware. She does both hunters and jumpers. My daughters do hunters with her. She trained with George Morris and has done many Grand Prixs as well. My 2 horses get excellent care and her lessons are incredible. The board includes 2 lessons with her. She goes to rated shows that have both hunter and jumper classes and is an excellent coach. I can’t say enough good things about her. JMO

Thanks, Zuri. I wondered about LRJ and had not heard about Ellen McGregor/Crebilly. I had heard good things about Blue Rock Farm but it might be a little far away for me…although maybe not. I would like to be at a barn that attends some CCHSA shows as well as some rated…not sure if any of these participate in CCHSA.

MakeaSplash, I believe Priscilla Godsoe is based out of the Hannum’s old farm and it is now called The Covert Farm. Farideh is a nice facility and well located. There were a couple hunter trainers in it a couple years ago but there has been turnover since and I don’t believe it’s a hunter facility now and I don’t know who is there. I’m not even sure if it’s open for boarding now.

Where was the old Pixie Gilles place in Hockessin? Just curious…I’m from Hockessin and can’t think of where that would be. I used to ride with Marilyn Mitchell at an old bank barn on North Star Road in Hockessin that got converted into a house. It’s a shame the barn is gone, but I’ll bet that house is really cool inside.

Priscilla did move into the Hannums place last year. If you rode with Marilyn in hockessin you probably would know my parents, wasn’t she at Barley Mill? Pixies oldddd place is basically across the street from HAC but I can never remember the name of the road, same back road as lantana square.

Valley Road or Limestone Road (Route 7)? I didn’t know Marilyn was at Barley Mill. Tina was there for a long time.

I don’t know if Marilyn was ever at Barley Mill. She was at Vicmead (in Greenville) then she was at North Star Rd (Hockessin) which is where I started riding with her on Daisy on a leadline. Then she moved to Greenfields on Pennock Bridge Rd maybe around 1992?

I wasn’t riding before Marilyn moved to Pennock Bridge but it is possible my parents just don’t remember where in Hockessin she was!
