I’m back into showing after a loooooong hiatus. I’ve noticed more often now riders wearing white breeches in the hunter ring, more so on classic days. Is this a new trend/trend I never noticed before? I always had a pair of white breeches back in my junior jumper days but they were mostly only seen in the jumper classic rings. Is this maybe because these riders are also doing jumper classics and for convenience wearing their white breeches the whole day? I would love to crack out my white pair for the Sunday Hunter classic days at some shows I’m going to this year if this is a new trend/acceptable but I’m a traditionalist so I like sticking with what is the “norm” in the hunter world! Thanks for any insight!
That is usually the case when you see white breeches in the hunter ring, except for men who are wearing white breeches for classes that require formal attire.
In the jumper ring, all genders wear white breeches for classics. In the hunter ring, traditionally men would wear white breeches and women would wear tan breeches and a shadbelly.
Note: you do NOT wear white breeches with a shad. It’s one or the either.
Agree with all above - you see most of this because riders have jumpers going in classics the same day, and they don’t swap pants.
Now, technically, you could wear them on Sunday in your hunter classes (sans shad for classic, as mentioned) as nobody would be the wiser if you DONT have a jumper and just felt like wearing your whites. It no longer is a weird thing just because, again, more riders do it since they have jumpers going too. And, white is indeed an acceptable pant color for the hunters (USEF attire rule HU 107.2)
I dunno- I think people just like wearing the whites in hunters, pretending it is for the jumper ring.??
