white bridles

I love the look of white bridles on tbs.

Now, I’ve never worked with tb racehorses, so I’m not familiar.

Are they a woven web material? If they get dirty, can you toss them in the wash or a soapy bucket or how do you handle them?

Sort of silly question, sorry.

They’re nylon. As for cleaning, one word: Bleach.

Can they survive a washing machine or do you bucket them?

Thanks MBM

They handle the washing machine quite well. They’re pretty sturdy.

Brand new ones can be used about 10 times or so before being regulated to daily morning work. Then used and washed daily until to dangerous to do so.

Though if it’s anything like the white leather edging on my padded dark leather bridle, it’s only for those who enjoy cleaning tack. A lot.

Interesting! Can I ask another silly question?

Why do they wear white bridles for racing?

They wear whatever bridle color they want for racing. Many people use white because it can go with any color silks. Some buy a bridle that matches the main color in their silks. I use white because my colors are hot pink and white but I think the white shows up better. They do make white leather as shown in the link above but I much prefer nylon. I think it looks better and is safer.

Thanks Laurierace! I’ve always wondered about that.

Personally, I like it when my picks wear the nylon white bridles - I find it easier to spot them in the pack, especially if the silks are darker colors.

Better then the white bridles for watching is the big white shadowrolls. We have those mostly for that reason

You can use any color you want or plain leather. White does make a horse look sharp though!

I’ll always take leather over nylon–I don’t like things that won’t break or cut easy if they have to. I use a racing bridle (in dark brown leather) and it’s reinforced enough I don’t worry about it wearing or snapping, but it’s still leather and if it gets snagged it will break.

Not a fan of white anything–I like how it looks, HATE cleaning it! Never had any luck cleaning nylon halters (when we used them.) They came out looking dingy.

Love the look of white leather on a turf horse. Don’t like the look of nylon in any color

So, for those who use the white nylon bridles, do you get the white reins also? Or does the rubber on the reins not hold up in the wash?

Tx.

I have white rubber reins. They don’t last forever of course and get thrown away when the rubber starts to get sticky.

Thanks Laurie, thanks all.

Can’t stand coloured tack personally.
Plain brown leather bridle, with no noseband and a loose ring snaffle… that’s class.

I do see your point DRV. It does make them easier to find, though.

Oh, sorry, I just do like the look. Different things for different people.

But realistically, that doesn’t work for every horse. No matter how much we all might like the look, if it doesn’t work, then it doesn’t work.
