My horse just got over a minor injury so I have not been able to ride her the last 3 weeks. I just bought her a Little S Hackamore and got to ride her once in it. Now it is raining alot. My luck. My horse is awesome and we have great places to trail ride and camp. I have to find a horse or mule for my other half to ride as well. We have alot of trailing and excirsing to do but my weekends are going to be full all fall!
It’s my favorite time of year to go out on the trails. Fall is way too short around here, and then the snow comes and seems to stay and stay and stay…
We don’t get much snow here. It does get bitter cold, but you are right about fall being too short. It is like it goes from summer to winter now with no inbetween!
Fall is my favorite season! I love donning a light jacket and going for a ride.
The horses seem to like the crisp air too, as they often have a little more bounce in their step…
Me! The season is way too short but I’m going to try to enjoy every day that I can. I have an easy keeper that needs exercise and we recently went to a Horsemanship for Trail Obstacles clinic, so we have plenty of things to work on.
Oh it just gets so exciting! I’ll be able to smell the crisp air and ride with no sweating! Super excited!
I am excited, but not brave enough to ride on the trails once hunting season starts. They can’t hunt during the day, but there are still hunters crashing around in the bushes trying to track the wildlife paths.
I need to find a good place to trail ride that doesn’t allow hunting as I prefer riding out when the bugs are mostly gone.
Taking my little mare camping for the first time at the end of the month. We will be seeing cows and crossing a river for the first time!
No hunting during the day? What are they hunting for? I swear it’s always hunting season of some sort around here, so the only time I don’t ride because of it is during the gun deer season in November. When we first were working at getting some local county forest trails designated as horse trails, the sheriff we worked with didn’t want us to ride during bow hunting season, feeling it was unsafe. We had to explain that that would take out most of our prime riding season, so that wasn’t an option.
CHT, have fun on your trip.
Prime time to ride is during hunting season. Don’t let the hunters take over! I love hunting myself, but I know the difference between a horse and a deer… smh. I always wear abunch of orange and I will get my horse some orange too. If I were to get shot and had on orange, well then it was just out of pure meaness. But I completly understand claiming it isn’t safe to ride during hunting season on hunting land. It just takes away from us riders and it isn’t fair. They do need to have places that can’t be hunted (refuge) and can be ridden (trails!).
I’ll ride during hunting season, but never on opening weekend! Mid-week, decked out in lots of orange, doesn’t worry me, especially after the leaves are down and we’re very visible. I used to ride a grulla and that did worry me a bit since he was the exact color of mule deer. He wore and orange halter under his bridle, an orange saddle pad, an orange tail bag and orange polo wraps!
Safety first! Always! I rode my mare some bareback yesterday in order to round up a few wild minis. (one needed his halter off) This morning when I went to feed her she seemed to be limping a bit. Like I said earlier she just now is off her meds for a small cut she had on her “ankle”. She rode just fine and didn’t limp. I’m hoping shes just a bit stove up from being off a few weeks. It scares me becuase I know too many people whose horses is lame and they can’t be ridden. Even though I hope that isn’t the case here. I just want to ride 5 hour trails with the hubby !
I just moved and so haven’t ridden for a couple months, but it’s worth it because I will soon go horse shopping for the first time! Hopefully by October I’ll have my horse, just in time to start trail riding in the cooler weather. I can’t wait until I need fuzzy tall socks and sweatshirts!
