Who else is stuck on the great WEG gridlock of 2010?

Short of widening the local roads, I’m not sure what they CAN do. You let 25,000 people out at once and the traffic is going to be bad. To follow on what someone said above, if you thought that was unusual, you’ve never been to a Red Sox game!

We were lucky, I guess - left after the medals, walked back to Spy Coast and were back on Iron Works by 11:30. It really helped (all day, not just with the leaving) that I spent lots of time beforehand studying up on all things WEG. Among other things, it meant that unlike many people there, I already knew Spy Coast was walkable, so as soon as we saw the line for the shuttles, we started walking! I knew my overly obsessive info gathering would pay off some day…

It was more like 35,000 and I had no problem getting out. They have done a fantastic job at least for the sold out events. I could not believe how quickly our shuttle line went. I got into a line from hell and I thought I’d still be there the next morning:lol: but 20 minutes later I was at my car. They have a lot of experience with Rolex which can bring in 60-80 thousand on cross country day. Nothing is perfect but so far I’m impressed.

I thought it moved exceptionally well.

I did get to the busses on foot about 1/2 hr or more before my disabled friend via shuttle… That sort of just cracked me up.

We got out of parking just fine though.

I’ve been THRILLED with how easily traffic empties… but then, I used to work Shaffer Stadium (i.e. Foxboro, i.e. Patriots :dead: )

We walked outbto spycoast parking before the medal ceremony, pulled into the exit line, and SAT from 10:30 to 12:30. Luckily the hotel wasn’t far.

Yeah, hotel shuttles ran great UNLESS you were on route 2! We waited over an hour before a bus showed up. All the people in other routes were already gone before we had a single bus show up. It was beyond ridiculous.

It sounds like every single Yankees game to me! Getting back on the Major Deegan takes a good hour - at least - and that isn’t a playoff or World Series![/QUOTE]

Whenever we go to Yankees games we have a friend’s mom drop us off and pick us up to avoid parking problems, and there isn’t usually bad traffic out on the roads. Also never had to wait more than 30 minutes to get out after concerts at Giant Stadium either. If it took so much time to get out after the dressage freestyle I can’t wait to hear how long everyone gets stuck for after show jumping!

You’d think after the issues after the opening ceremonies they’d have thought it through some for nights like last night.

We left before the medals (and in fact before Imke’s score was even up) got back to Spy Coast before hardly any of the cars were gone, but had the bad luck of being in the back of the lot. Sat from 10:40 to 12:28 before the wheels hit pavement on Ironworks. Once on Ironworks, went fine. I don’t believe it had anything to do with the size of the roads. Had everything to do with the one driveway out and the TOTAL LACK of parking attendants to keep it moving for those in the back. Never saw a single one until we were right at the exit.

There were no cars in the front of the lot by the time we cleared the hill. Absolutely horrible for those who had been in their cars at 10:30 that they had to sit while those who sauntered back to their cars at 11:45 in the front of the lot just got to drive right out.

And I understand we could’ve used a shuttle - but there were 6 of us - at $10 a piece (or was it $15 yesterday?) for the shuttles from the hotels - that is $60 to $90 rather than $20.

The Herald Leader reported attendance of 45K people Friday, maybe the same today. I’ve been stuck in 4th of July traffic at the end of a one lane road and I feel your pain, let’s hope they have a system worked out by tonight.

We were stuck in that field for an hour and a half. That was the worst mess I’ve ever been in and I’ve been in crowds of over 200,000 after fireworks on the 4th of July. Just thousands of cars in a field with no guidance or direction! What a fricken mess, cars were pointed in all different directions and going nowhere. Once we finally hit pavement, we got right out.

The issues weren’t just front lot v. back lot, but a total inexplicable order to when and how many cars were allowed forward at any given time. I could see far lines letting MANY cars go, yet my line and the ones near me (i.e. that I could have jumped to without causing an international incident) would only advance 2-3 cars at a time.

I think we had all resigned ourselves to a long slog, but I was in one of the front fields (in the campground) and it still took me 2 hours to hit Iron Works. It doesn’t make sense for it to take 2 hours for me to hit pavement and for someone I know who left at the same time to be at their hotel (15 min from the park) in under 45 mns.

That. Was. CRAZY.

We parked at the WEG office across the street. At about 11pm we were told the lines for the shuttle back across the street were 1 hour-plus. We ended up walking up through the campground/Spy Coast lots, crossing the street, and walking up to the WEG office. Not the safest thing in the world but we made it. Once there, it took maybe 20 minutes to get out. Back at the hotel by 12:30.

IMO part of the problem was that there was no way for the shuttles to avoid the mess on Iron Works as they went back and forth to the horse park.

Well, yesterday and today were my first two exits- sat for maybe 10 minutes yesterday, 5 today…I have been in far worse! And now I know how to get to I-75 by going LEFT out of Spyglass instead of right!

For some reason, all of the traffic in the spyglass was moving towards the east side of the field, but I drove to the west side (near the flagged walkway into the park), and that was all clear. I got out in about 5 minutes after both cross country and stadium. And, actually, last night for cross country, we did sit on the east side for a bit, until my friend got out to see if we could drive somewhere else. She gave me the all clear towards the west side, and I got out with no problem.

I think the issue is that they don’t have enough parking attendants to flag everyone out. There was no direction and lots of frustrated people. Of course, in the mornings, when you drive in, there is a parking attendant for every car flagging you every inch of the way!
