Who funds Kent Farrington?

Kent I find to be an amazing rider, and I know he did not come from money.

He also doesn’t seem to have his own business like the Maddens do with their sales barn.

Which makes me wonder, how is he funded? He sure seems to have some talented horses that go along with his own fantastic abilities.

Is it just from his own winnings? Does he have one main backer or lots of LLCs?

Just fawning here.

I did a quick USEF search and found this:

He appears to own a few himself (Creedence, Dublin, Gazelle - co owned with Robin Parsky,Sherkan D’Amaury - co owned with the Crown family)

His other main backer (his Abigail Wexner or Double H Farm if you will) seems to be Amalaya Investments (Nusz family). They own Voyeur, Willow, Waomi and many others that he has ridden on and off in the past.

He also wins more then his fair share…like a lot. So he is bringing in a lot of prize money per year as well. Probably why he (like Eric Lamaze) tried to own at least part of his horses

It’s been a few years, no idea if they are still associated but there was a partnership in one of his superstar horses that included a major corporate CEO whose daughters still show. Kent’s good with people and smart enough to keep them happy owners despite the juggling act partnerships require… There’s a lesson there…

Hes done good for middle class, Midwest roots…maybe because of that.

I’m SO GLAD to see Blue Angel back in his hands. So glad.

Thank you! Very useful info…

Yeah, I agree. He seems to be one of the rare no drama riders who manage to ride REALLY well and also has a strong backing. Having grown up in the midwest myself, I would love to say that’s why, hah. But I imagine part of it has to do with the fact he has worked hard to climb to his position of prestige.

When did he lose Blue Angel to get her back?

Quite a few of his students’ families own part of his horses - many of his partnerships are put together of him with a couple student’s parents. I don’t think it’s a requirement to ride with him (for instance, Paige Johnson’s family doesn’t seem to own part of any of his horses and I believe she still trains with him), but it does seem to be quite the thing to do. Amalaya (Megan Nusz) has owned many of his horses in the past, but is less involved in his newer partnerships. (Megan is off at college now and riding less, so makes sense.) He has a few longstanding farm sponsors (RCG Farm for instance). As someone mentioned, he wins quite a lot of prize money, so it’s not the money pit as much as it is for some showjumping owners! Kent also buys and sells a lot, so he has more cash himself to play with than some.

If you’re talking about the McNerny’s, they still own part of some of his horses (and Hilary still rides with Kent. She’s a very nice rider in her own right who could likely go far if she sticks with it.)

She was with Marilyn Little from late spring/early summer of last year until some time just recently. Poor thing, Trust me, she is MUCH better off back with Kent.

It looks like Blue Angel was on a break from January 2016 until this summer. USEF has a similar report.

Agree

Kent has quite a few sponsors. RCG and Amalaya have been around the longest.

Creedence/Uceko are RCG horses (Gay family)
Dublin and another new one are Tanma Corp. which is Susan Chu and her husband (GPS company) - they also have racehorses.
McNerney/Crown own a number of others -McNerney dad was Boeing CEO
Amalaya only seems to have Voyeur with him at the moment- Meagan took over the ride on Willow last year, and the others went with Meagan and were with Alex/Mad Season at one point this summer.

Kent seems to have a similar arrangement with his owners to Eric Lamaze with Artisan - where he is a co-owner (or listed as) for on certain horses.

The FEI database will show you ownership - click a horses name and then at the top of the horses page on the right side you can click a link to View Horse Details which will show you owner history.

Yeah, the were trying to breed her. It didn’t work out, and she’s extremely lucky to be back in Kent’s barn and no longer with Marilyn. I hope the Parsky family keeps her there.

Thanks for clearing that up.
