So after great feedback on here, I decided against the Icon Star because it was too high in the front and hurt. I am now waiting to try the Icon Coda to see if that works better. Does anyone have one? What are your thoughts? Pros/cons? Thank you all!
They ride super small. I test rode a coda and had the same problem though I LOVED it otherwise. If only my a$$ wasn’t so big
@Manahmanah Lol! That’s interesting because I test rode the 17.5" but it felt small. So now I’m waiting for the 18" to come. Apparently my a$$ is bigger than I thought
Interesting - I just heard that from someone too! I was looking at a used one, but haven’t tried it yet. Do they have a steep front rise? I am looking for a flatter, more open seat too…
I have a Coda and I LOVE it! The Star hit me wrong too but the Coda is perfect for me. I didn’t realize they run small. I ride in a 18 and that’s what I have always ridden in.
@MysticOakRanch the rise in the front isn’t as steep as the Star, and not as high either. That’s what bothered me about the Star. The seat is fairly deep so maybe not as open as you are looking for. I hope the 18" works…the novelty of saddle shopping is sure wearing off!
I have a friend who likes it very much and it’s the only Custom saddle she likes. I can ride in several models but the Coda seems very particular
I have heard this about the Coda…have ridden in both the Star (liked it) and the Coda (hated it), so maybe OP will have the opposite experience. I didn’t think the Coda rode that small…I rode in a 17.5 in both and thought the Star rode smaller.
I just paid for one today! I test rode a couple of Customs, and the Icon Coda made an immediate difference and was a very clear winner for me in terms of allowing my posture to find itself, without me fighting my body. All the others were good, but the instant I picked up sitting trot in the Coda I felt like I was floating in the correct position - everything else I had to keep adjusting to rotate my hips correctly, put my shoulders back, etc.
I have one! I found most of the models I tried comfortable enough for myself, but chose it because my horse moved better in it than the others. I think he likes the flex tree. I have since refit it to two other horses and it fits them both well too (one uses a ThinLine, the other does not). I like the close contact feel it produces compared to my old saddle, a Passier Grand Gilbert.
I thought it was pretty true to size as I always go in either 17.5 or 18 and it is one or the other (can’t recall which).
FWIW, I haven’t been that thrilled with Custom quality/durability (my 3-year-old Custom has had more failed stitching than my 18-year-old Passier, and the buffalo hide on the flaps shows a lot of wear).
@Feathered_Feet did you get your new Coda yet? I think I’ve decided on the 17.5" with the long blocks. Do you find it rode true to size or small?
I bought the one I test rode, so I’ve been in it a few weeks! I guess it has the regular (short) blocks. I think it’s true to size - it’s a tad more snug than my last saddle, which was an 18"… but my backside seems to get a smidge larger every year, so could be that, too
