Who has the Home made Uncle Jimmy recipe?

I have been searching this BB for nearly an hour trying to find it. I got it last year - I thought in Horse Care - Could be Off Course.

Any way it looks like no school for tomorrow and I though my girls would love to make these for our spoiled babies er horses

They LOVED them last year. We made 24 of them - little for the pony pals BIG for the monster clan hunters. I wish I had put the recipe in a safe place.

Thanks!!!

Excellent - I’ve been dying to try some homemade horse treats!

I attempted to make one of those last year for Gus (before we knew he was IR). OMG, was that a PITA to make… well, err, clean up was anyways. Everything was stuck. One big, solid, sticky mess. I vowed never again to make one… or if I would, I’d use crappy pot-ware. I just about ruined a new saucepan making it, never mind the nice bamboo spoon that I also ruined.

But… Gus loved it, nonetheless. Go figure.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but does anyone have a recipe for the “Nicker Bait” cookies that look like little muffins and come in carrot and banana flavors?

use only non-stick cookware and dunk it immediately in hot water as soon as you pull out the “mass”. I sprayed my pans with non-stick cooking spray as well. I never really had much of a clean-up issue, you just have to do it immediately! Another tip would be to fill your pot back up with water, add a few drops of dish detergent and bring to a boil.

Thanks!!!

We used non stick cook ware plus a load of PAM and waxed paper.

I am the one who figured out the recipe for Uncle Jimmie’s. If you can provide an ingredient list for the "Nicker Bait’ cookies, I can try to deciper the recipe.

With the hanging ball recipe it is just sugar syrup. Fill the pan with water and let it sit for an hour or two. The sugar dissolves itself, easy clean up.

Here is a list of ingredients for Nicker Bait cookies. Thanks!

Rolled oats, apples, cane molasses, wheat bran, cracked corn, rolled barley and flax seed.

You are my horse’s idol!

Does anyone have a good way to get the stickiness from Uncle Jimmy’s out of forelocks?

I have messy “children.”

Hang it HIGHER. Mine are hung so that they have to reach to eat them. They don’t bump into the horses head or neck when they’re just moving around the stall. The worst I get is a sticky muzzle and they usually clean that off themselves when they drink water. Or a little bit in your hand rubs it off. I’ve got some in my weanlings stalls right now and they’ve even figured it out. They filly MUCH quicker than the colt.

So hang it a bit higher… don’t worry they will reach. My willow tree branches that hang in my paddock will prove they do reach for food.

Sorry, but Shane has a BIG sweet tooth. Since he is also an easy keeper the balls make him work for it and last longer. Pony Pops - pfft gone in an hour! And i have been known to put Vaseline in their forelocks to repel the gunk - gross but works!

Reviving an old thread here, I tried to make these this past weekend and have no clue what I did wrong. As soon as I added the cornmeal and feed I had an instant brick and was unable to even get it off the pan. Any thoughts?

For my 31 year old nearly toothless wonder, I put his in a feed tub so he has something to do when the others are eating hay that he can’t chew.

I might try making one of these!

Thanks!

I love post 10. It has been my solution for the past 8 or 9 $20 balls. But they are getting expensive and the horse has 5 more months of stall rest and vet bills coming as well. An alternative to buying them would be nice.

I’ve made the homemade recipe three times, only ruined one batch completely by trying to form into a ball shape with waxed paper - I couldn’t get the waxed paper off the ball! so to get the stick off, I have used Avon’s Skin so Soft - that stuff is amazing! <and it smells really good, too!>

my question to all is what or HOW do you make your <balls> into a ball shape? I think I have a solution using a couple plastic cereal bowls with notches cut out of each for the rope to come through, but maybe somebody has an easier, less destructive way? and thanks for the recipe! I just ordered a coupon organizer from Amazon and the Jimmy Balls there are going for $31.80 EACH!!!
