Who is Mandy Pope?

She’s spend many, many millions of dollars buying TBs over the last three or four years. She bought Havre de Grace and Groupie Doll, for example, and has the two most expensive yearlings at Keeneland so far in the September sale. Where did she come from?

I know she lives in Florida and keeps her broodmares in Kentucky and has had some racing success, but her buying habits are extreme.

Her business started doing well and her thought is, you cant take it with you, hence the frivilous spending. Though she was quoted as saying she entered the big yearling in the sale to attempt to offset broodmare spending and then she spent it all back yesterday. That being said, a lovely yearling. I looked at him and that was the one my daughter kept saying to bring home. At 6 yrs old, she has a good eye.

I just hope your daughter isn’t a BCH-er in training

I didn’t like the Tapit colt yesterday but the 2 high prices from Tuesday were lovely horses… - now where did I put my piggy bank???

I don’t think her buys are more extreme than other really rich people but did you mean to say “for a woman”. At least Mandy has worked in the industry before and what better way to spend your bunches of money when you love racehorses?

Do you realize this thread is 4yrs old?

I guess we should all know who she is now? :;):

Since she just bought a sales topper, it seems appropriate that it be exhumed.

a) no :o

b) when I had this question last night, Google was my friend… her family owns Variety Wholesalers and she has been on the BdD. Her first horse was Blue Whisper, acquired when she was in high school.

She is also a founding Board Member, Secretary and Treasurer of the John William Pope Foundation. (from the John William Pope Foundation web page).

Asking a question on a 4yr old thread as if the OP, who is banned, can answer, just seemed a little strange.

Summerhorse knows who Mandy Pope is.

I don’t understand why folks don’t start a new thread, instead of resurrecting ancient ones, because so many people don’t bother to re-read the entire thread, myself included. Granted this one is short and I’d never seen it.

Sounds like Viney didn’t approve of a complete stranger’s spending habits.

Shocking, really.

I had the beginnings of the vapors…thought for a second that the mods had decided to let Viney back in!

Viney got banned? When? Thought Viney was active on the Michael Barisone thread.

Post 2596, the GM thread about his Safe Sport case.

Viney is both knowledgable about horses and horrid in her social views.

I’m shocked the Mods left that post up.

Oh yes, I stopped reading that thread, but do recall things getting a bit crazy. Something to do with slavery? At that point I lost interest.

Well, it makes it easy to track down the answer.

Before that post there was another horrific post by Vineyridge who opined, that since kids in Mississippi were having sex with each other they may as well have it with adults. I think that one was taken down.

 a bit shocked that she’s been banned but COTH guidelines are there for a reason.

I always liked reading her pedigree/bloodline posts but not so much her other postings…

Back to Mandy Pope - Have any of her horses won (or run in) any notable races? I don’t remember seeing or hearing about any of them. Does she sell more of her homebreds than she races?
