title says it all…
Luar.
Tied very, very closely with Paragrapho Do Top.
Luar’s movement is breathtaking, his temperament is lovely. I was so sad to see him head back to Brazil… and surprized to hear he may be coming to the WEG?? Would be quite the feat, he was the first Lusitano to be in the Pan Ams.
It was very exciting to watch Relampago in Hong Kong.
Paragrapho, on the other hand, can go from being the fire-breathing-mystical horse doing tempis and piaffe/passage tours… to the kindest giant grey pony doing up-down lessons. He appears to be the epitome of the Iberian horse in stature, movement and spirit… his back is like butter and he is incredibly forgiving and just truly has the biggest heart on the planet.
Neither of them has any problem whatsoever with extensions either.

Luisadas
Well my choices don’t really have anything to do with anything other than these guys all have neat colors and conformation that I like. Palomino, Isabella and Buckskin, too cool!!
Douglas–your guy is very, very nice. (adds to the list…
)
I am breeding currently for Aztecas. I can’t wait to see your Azteca due this year–the mare is terrific!
Luar! One of my favorites also!
I kind of like Marjan Do Destinado, also! he is now revised with the APSL, thats good news for us! To eventually breed to our luso mare!
Thank you Pintopiaffe for your kind words on our boy! we can’t wait also to see that little one! 3 more weeks!! hehe
Lusidias. I have a filly by him and out of an appendix mare. He REALLY came through in the filly. She looks purebred, and moves just like daddy. She’s only 2, so not under saddle yet. She does have a bit more fire than Luke does, and that came from her mom (who is quite hot in the arena).
He’s also just a huge puppy dog of a horse, and a total show-off. Much nicer in person than the online videos would lead you to believe. He has a son, who is even nicer than he is, who was sold to Canada a while back.
There was a stallion up in Michigan that I really liked from the videos, but his website is no longer functional. He was owned by Maple Ridge Andalusians.
Some of the “colored” horses aren’t true to type though. Saphiro is one who looks very earthbound in his movement. I’ve not seen a foal of his I liked.
Hampton Bay
Neither this one?.. (By Saphiro…) (Sorry, the video is blurry, but I hope you can see the way this colt travels:)
Lavrador? Don’t know much about Lusitanos, but he sure looks impressive!
(Buckskin, too!)
Off topic, but what does the VO or VA mean that appears after a stallions name?
Thanks in advance.

It’s a suffix that identifies the breeder. VO is Victor Oliva, but I can’t remember which one VA is.
I have to jump in and say that my own palomino Lusitano, Branca Leao, is my favorite!
He is by Portugal (who is qualified for WEG in the grand prix) and out of a wonderful mare by Paragrafo do Top - Maravilha. His pedigree had alot to do with my choice of him as a youngster in Brazil.
He was bred at Haras Modelo, Jose (Cal) Garcia, who I think has a very good breeding program of modern type Lusos.
I have a leggy filly by Veneno this year - a glorious “buttermilk dun” like her dam (by Andalusian sire Gaucho III). Veneno lives close to me here in Fl.
I have long been interested in the Lusitano, and try to follow the bloodlines that I feel produce the type that I like.
Are any of the GP Dressage Lusitano stallions available for breeding or via frozen semen? I wasn’t able to find anything online.
