Who pays registration

I second @Ghazzu - she is very cute! Looking forward to more photos. Please share her registered name and/or pedigree.

Thanks, @Ghazzu and @Montanas_Girl! I’m pretty excited about her!

Her name is Kamelia C. Her sire is Kordelas by Monogramm and her dam’s sire is Kadence by Bask. There’s some Al Marah breeding way back on her tail female line but she’s mostly Polish bred, I think.

I’ll get more pics once it’s warm enough to clean her up!

Oh, wow! You have a treasure there, especially if she’s breeding sound. *Kordelas was one of my favorite Arabian stallions ever. And my mare line is based on Al Marah blood, too. If she weren’t gray, I’d threaten to come steal her from your pasture! I look forward to seeing her all cleaned up.

Funny, after the gray horse in my avatar, I had decided no more gray horses. Too much trouble to keep clean!

Then I went horse-hunting and found a really nice part-Percheron mare and naturally, she was gray.

Recently I started looking for a second horse and my criteria: nice Arabian mare, kid-safe, NOT gray. But then I saw her and promptly caved.

So now I’m the reluctantly happy owner of two very nice grays.

I was happily surprised when I saw her pedigree, especially with her relatively low price. I almost wish I was in a position to breed her! But I think I’ll have a very nice riding horse, at least, even if she’s never bred.

Her tail female is *Werdi, one of the original Davenport imports.
I like her even more!

This was my question too. I paid for my last baby’s registration and it was never even brought up. I assume I’ll pay for the next one too. Do some registries have cost-prohibitive charges for initial registration? I think mine was… well, less than $200, less than 12 months old, it jumped up some after that but still not something I’d blink at given the costs of purchasing and transport.

Yes, definitely, especially once you get past the first year.

Thoroughbreds, for example:

Foal Registration Fees
If all requirements are met within the one-year deadline for foals of 2022 and beyond: $245
If all requirements are met by December 31 of yearling year: $570
If all requirements are met by December 31 of 2-year-old year: $820
If all requirements are met after December 31 of 2-year-old year: $2045

I am glad you said it, that was what I was thinking.

AQHA’s fees are much more reasonable. (The grey column is for members, white for non-members.)

My registration for IDHSNA was similar to AQHA’s, maybe a little more on the front end and no “climb,” just $xxx before 12 months and +$xxx for after (which was still less than JC’s newborn cost). I paid an extra $25 recently when her registration upgraded. Are other registries more aligned with JC? Because I can see why that would be an issue during a purchase…

AHA (Arabian Horse Association) is similar to AQHA.

Purebred fees:

Half Arabian fees:

Purebred fees are higher because those foals are DNA typed and Half Arab foals are not.

I believe the registry has announced that they will begin DNA typing half-Arabs.

The latest policy is that Half Arabs have to be DNA typed to participate in certain money-added classes at Nationals (a result of the infamous QH-gate incident). No others are required to be DNA typed at this time.

Yeah, right? Sometimes you see 2+ yo TBs that haven’t been registered but “can be” and it often comes as a huuuuge surprise just how costly that is. They really, really want you to register them as foals!

What was the infamous QH-gate incident? I’m curious. :slightly_smiling_face:

There were a couple of “Half Arabians” who cleaned up in the cutting (I think? Possibly also cow horse and/or reining) classes about 10 years ago. Upon investigation, it turns out they were purebred Quarter Horses…Oops.

Yikes. DNA verification is definitely a wise move for any registry regardless, but it’s too bad that the dishonest people make things difficult for others.

I’ll never forget the “Czechoslovakian Warmblood” that was at stud with false papers that was actually an “American Warmblood”. There was a thread on COTH. I couldn’t believe that someone would be so dishonest (but they obviously were.)

Sorry to continue the hijack, but the new mare that I mentioned upthread has turned out to be an absolute gem. Today was her first day doing pony rides for a group of noisy, excited young children and she was absolutely wonderful. She’s such a sweet, good-minded, and fun little mare.

Her registration transferred without a problem, despite the fact that the original seller had signed the transfer several years ago. Oh, and I reached out to the original owners and was able to get some history on her. They were also very happy to hear about how much I’m enjoying her!

Kami and one of the kids!
