Who pays the stud fee on a broodmare auctioned in foal?

Just wondering. Who gets to pay the stud fee? Its customarily due when the foal stands and nurses so what happens here?

I think generally the consignor/seller pays the stud fee upfront and the LFG is waived, but I am not sure if I’m remembering right.

The stud fee is paid by the mare owner before the mare goes to the sale. The Live Foal Guarantee does not transfer to the new owner.

I agree with everything Laurie said but I did know one very generous farm that did allow a breed back when the mare aborted due to placentitis. Small time stallion at a small farm so not like it was Storm Cat or anything but proves it doesn’t hurt to ask.
