Our indoor arena is probably 40-50 years old, and the metal roof leaks. Who do you call for this type of repair? A barn company or roofer? I have called two roofing companies and they never show up to look at it. Any recommendations? Barn is in NE PA , Lehigh Valley area.
Thank you
I certainly don’ know, I’m notin your area, but I think I would go down to the local bar where all the farmers go for a drink and talk them up and see what they say. You might just com across a builder who will do barn roofs and knows how to replace and fix up the metal roof.
At least it would be entertaining to do that while you’re waiting to find a roofer to fix it. But a farmer and his two sons would probably do the job.
Got in touch with one roofing company that said they do not give estimates for leaks. They just fix them @ $170 hour X however many hours it takes plus material. How are roofing companies in business?
Ask one of the barn construction companies, they might at least be able to look at it and give you an estimate. There are many in the area (look at Equine Marketer ads) who would likely travel to you.
In my area its tricky to find a good roofing company. Good luck!!!
We used these guys for work in the past and would be surprised if they wouldn’t give you an estimate. And yes, they are Amish, but do travel.
Find a Metal Roofing Installer or a Liquid Roof Coating Specialist
You may need to find an experienced metal roofing installer to repair a leaky metal roof, provided that the roof that is currently leaking is a standing seam or corrugated metal roofing system. If it’s a different kind of roof or something else, or you can’t find an installer who is able and willing to do the repair and identify the source of a roof leak, then you may need to hire a liquid roof coating specialist to apply the coating to the part of the roof that is leaking or to the entire roof, if you want to ensure there are no more leaks in the near future. Try Garages-N-More in Alburtis. High quality builders and Bill is the nicest person. If they can’t do it, they probably can steer you in the right direction.
This kind of job/work is not usually of much interest to most roofing companies. Just not enough in it for them. If the roof is as old as the building it could be problematic and be more of a PITA then the size of the “paycheck”. Fix one leak and than another starts in the area and the customer may accuse them of not fixing it right. Not worth the bad PR that can come into play with the ease of social media.
I wanted to get one side of my barn resided. A pretty big side, 65’ wide 40’ high. Called 5 companies that build and or renovate barns. 2 called me back pretty quickly, 1 several weeks later, 2 did not return the call. 2 showed up took measurements, etc. 1 sent me an estimate I never heard back from the other guy. I figured up the material cost around $3,500. The only quote I got was for $13,500. Without painting. I know how to do all of this stuff, I know what is involved and what things should cost. No way there is $10,000 worth of labor involved. 3-4 people that know what they are doing could have it done in a couple of days at most.
Might be worth trying to find a handyman with good references.
Try asking some Amish folk. Just has metal roof installed on my house by Amish. Very reasonable and fairly easy to work with.
I’m to far north to give you names and contact numbers. Sorry.
