Who's combined chrome and brass in their trunks or show setup?

I’m trying to renovate my trailer dual purpose with my show setup.

My Phoenix wests are trimmed in chrome but I was hoping to have traditional brass hooks and accessories with a foxhunting theme in both the trailer reno and the tent at shows. The trailer reno will utilise the trunks (including a standup) as part of the cabinetry and shelving so they don’t take up “extra” space. The idea of mixing metals is throwing me off, but maybe I’m overthinking.

Who has show setups that have both chrome AND brass?

Unless you are talking about a carriage and a harness in pleasure driving, you are probably overthinking it, nobody will notice or care.

I’ve been around horses and horse shows my whole life in several different disciplines and I have never thought about this question nor heard anyone discuss it. So I agree with DMK that you’re probably overthinking this.

True! Overthinking bumper stickers for all!

If I had a choice, I wouldn’t mix-n-match these metals.

But if that’s how things had to go, I wouldn’t let the mismatch hold me back. I would plan on relegating those older trunks to barn storage and order in the new metal when the time came. I understand that that could take a while.

Yours in over-thinking and adoring the matchy-match of HunterLand (because I grew up poor and my nose pressed to the glass and planning/thinking for the future is how I survived my childhood and I haven’t spent any Therapy Dollars on discussing my love for the old school hunter barn show set-up),

Maybe I’m the same as you and @mvp - I wouldn’t do it myself. I won’t even mix metals on a halter/lead combo.

Can you swap out the hardware on your trunks? Maybe Phoenix West can send you the correct pieces?

I have brass on wood pieces and chrome on stuff with vinyl. I don’t like chrome on straight wood even though all of the wood pieces and trim tend to be walnut finish. I think this is how my old show barn always did it in the tack room. Never thought it looked weird.

Yes, I think this is standard for a lot of outfits. Bridle racks and martingale hooks on bridle boards tend to be brass, trunk hardware is SS or chrome.

My clan has arrived!
The trunks are newer black vinyl with the chrome trim so I don’t think changing that to brass would look great or be cost effective. They also have the chrome lids to make this extra annoying.

I think the idea of brass on wood might help.

I too grew up drooling over the extra style that I couldn’t afford so if I’m spending $$ it has to be right since I still don’t have the extra to do it twice

And I’m back for more!

  1. The traditional top on those trunks is stainless steel, not chrome. But Fancy People started (paying even more,) putting another (hard to clean) vinyl panel on the top. Cool, cool, except for when you wanted to use the lid of the trunk as a table for mixing meds or whatever and spill stuff on it.

  2. The truly anal among us ask for chrome hooks on our bridle racks. They have 'em.
