Whose COTH Name Can I Drop to Find a Clumber Spaniel Puppy?

I’ve wanted one for years, but as a non-show home, I have a hard time getting past the gatekeepers since the breed is so rare.

So, who has a breeder friend whose name I can drop?

Alternately, is it a ginormous hassle importing a pup from the UK?

I don’t know of anyone here, but I know there was a poster on the UDBB who owned Clumbers. Perhaps search there?

Edit: It appears to be Paula http://www.ultimatedressage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=229247&p=7198576&hilit=clumber#p7198576

No, it is not a hassle to import - breeders would know, but charge you for delivery to airport, vets, etc. No quarantine. We did it years ago.

Much better than name-dropping.

Why a Clumber Spaniel? Do you know anything about them? Do you have experience with them? Do you know that they are suited to your lifestyle and home furnishings?

Have you talked to any breeders yet, or are you just assuming they want to place in show homes only? Just curious; obviously most breeders would love to place all their puppies in the best possible homes - those that will show, hunt, AND do performance AND keep them like pets - but they don’t always get those perfect homes. And obviously, there are some puppies that are known not to be show quality, even at a young age (e.g. incorrect bites).

That said, if you have talked to breeders and they really want show homes…it’s not unrealistic to consider showing a puppy if this is the breed you really love. It could be a little tough if they are “rare”…makes showing difficult because you have to coordinate with others for points. But, if you like the breeder, they would probably help.

I have a close friend directly involved in Clumber Spaniels. She used to breed (I’m not sure if she still has an intentions of breeding in the future) but is mainly focused on rescuing Clumbers now. The rescue FB page can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Clumber-Spaniel-Rescues/147252475443430

I know lately they have been buying out puppy mills clumbers, not just the puppies but the breeding dogs too. She was telling me the other day that one puppy miller is no longer breeding clumbers due to them buying out his stock. (YAY)

Good luck in your search.
