Why does pumpkin help sooth upset dog tummies?

just curious if there is a rhythm or reason to this, I’d never heard that until a year or so ago… one of my dogs has had an upset tummy today so I thought I’d try it… just wondering if anyone knows WHY it works?

it’s the high fiber content. i don’t know if it helps sooth their tummies but the fiber helps with diarrhea.

My vet recommends giving them pepto pills every 4 hours while they have
an upset tummy, as well as pumkin. The pepto soothes the tummy and the
pumpkin firms up the poop.

Pumpkin is also good for dogs whose poo is too hard.

Not sure exactly why it works, but it does !

I think the fiber in the pumpkin is supposed to absorb water in sloppy dog stool, thus “firming” it. And it adds soft bulk to hard poop, thus making it bigger and softer. I’ve personally never had much luck with pumpkin doing much for a full-blown case of diarrhea, though.

Fiber. We add yogurt as a probiotic as well. Horse poop works too - covers both fiber and probiotic. Just need to be sure horses aren’t on medications or recently wormed.

Cats are also helped by pumpkin, and seem to quite like it.
