Hey Dickie,
What you think of the new eligibility rules?
Some folks say if it goes into effect as written beginning of next month there will be approx 400 horses thrown out of there with no place to go.
Real aces they got for HBPA leadership:yes::lol:

It won’t affect 400, more like 100. Personally, I stop on them well before their inelgible so it won’t affect me as much as some others. There are many trainers who win 4-5 races a year with 200+ starters who will run their crappy maidens for $7,500 to avoid becoming inelegible. The membership voted for the elites to run the HBPA (for the most part) so the horseman are reaping what they sewed. Who cares, Penn will be in the same boat as MNR in 3 years anyway and all the elites will be looking for work outside of the horse business.

Well yeah that they did but in all fairness they were lied to. Beatty and Co. promised to work in the best interests of everybody. Like was said on Animal House “You effed up, you trusted us!” As soon as elected they made a very self serving deal to benefit themselves and screw everybody else. Horsemen’s politics isn’t really much different than governmental in that respect. Was a near fight about it in the paddock the other night between 2 trainers resulting in security throwing one of them out.
This issue promises to heat up, stay tuned.
As to them being out of the horse business if you’re right on that it’ll sure serve them right.
Understand that Beattie and Mostoller were instrumental in helping jumpstart a Pa.-bred restricted program - 68 races starting with the 2nd condition book, racing office will write several per week, race classes from MSW to ALW, some for mdn $10s and $25s. Good news for owners/breeders of Pa. breds.
Hey Dick, what’s up with Mike Gill? Now that he won more races than anyone in 2009, is he going to ease out of the business?

Was that Animal House that said that, or Obama?

Not until his mortgage business crashes.
Ok easy on Obama here.

Until he starts racing at Penn, anyway . . .

[/QUOTE] Looking at condition books that are easily peruseable here on the internet we can find stste bred races in abundance on a daily basis in NY, WV, MD, virtually everywhere except Pennsylvania. Being as that Owners and Trainers of PA Breds are routinely denied stalls in favor of out of staters it would appear that PA Breds right now would have a real hard time getting entered in a race.
If what you say is true that would be good but more than a few of us will believe it when we see it.
Also, why do PA tracks no longer have PA Bred on the saddle towels like they used to? Aw hell when are they even going to provide new or at least laundered saddle towels?
In light of the money spent on the bordello they built the shabby looking saddle towels and groom number vests are a disgrace. Tell the Beatty family that:yes:
I agree that the PA Bred races are still scarse compared to WV (not MNR, but CT) and New York, where each typically has at least 1x per day. 68 sounds like a lot, but in reality that is 1x every 3+ days of racing which is nothing. Basically 1x per week.
What I want to know is where are all the “makeup dates” that we’re supposedly getting as a result of cancellations. Perhaps their working on scheduling those race dates. We will see.
I haven’t had a PA bred race in over a decade now, so forgive me for asking, but do PA breds no longer have preference in entries?

Yes, as long as you are entering a race for more than a $7,500 claiming price - in other words, the preference doesn’t really matter anymore except for the turf.

Once was a time that they did. Now that they’ve set about the business of destroying the PA breeding industry the answer is no.(at least at Penn anyway)
same here
What is PNGI’s problem with local owner\breeders? We have the same problem with stalls at CT. Unless your one of the couple of golden boy outfits forget ya,and roll out the red carpet for somewhat from out of state.

Their trying to improve their racing product.

What you say is true. Someone very close to me who has all PA Breds was denied stalls at PN without their even pulling the PPs on the horses. Denial letters are pre-written and sent out the same day they get stall apps. Yet this same individual received a letter OFFERING them stalls at CT! This is bovine excrement folks!
I’ve also heard that Woodbine and Ft Erie in Canada are shutting out their locals in favor of Americans and other folks from out of those areas

You gotta be kidding. FE had so many empty stalls last season I think we could have run a boarding barn out of a full barn or two. The low end of my barn was empty save a couple single horse stables trying to patch together their cripples enough to run 'em once, poor suckers. And a number on the grounds with stalls either didn’t run at FE or just didn’t run at all the whole year. If I didn’t have a farm of my own I might as well have put the papers for my 7 year old pleasure horse in the office and ship in there for a cheap stall. Woodbine’s stalls might have been full, as we don’t stable there, but we got several calls from the office when they were trying to fill races to throw our horses in.
Worrying about getting stalls never crosses my mind. Worrying about where they’ll stick us and what will have to be done to make the stalls habitable though, yeah that’s another story. They will tell you the best stalls in the best areas and the nice tack rooms and feed sheds are being held for a “big outfit” to ship in. Now that’s funny.
For the ‘big outfits’ that never do show! Let’s hope things make a change for the better, but…

Know nothing about FE, never been there. Guy that told me this was familiar with Woodbine and just threw the place in.
As for big outfits I can remember Monmouth having a problem with stalls a few years back because they were holding open a barn for DeeWayne just in case he decided to grace them with his presence. Eventually after a couple years of that nonsense they quit that and things got better.
The thing I think is funny is the folks at Penn who enjoy being big fish in a small pond get their heads handed to them whenever they face the Mott’s or Pletcher’s anywhere. Have they thought about it? Do they really want those guys for competition instead of the small time outfits their used to beating up on?
Oh I know, they just figure they’ll claim everything these guys bring in. Think better of it. Their too small to play in that league. They’ll soon regret cooking their own goose.
