Oh nails are my kryptonite… one breaks and my stomach turns… The old Vaseline hand and nail commercial on TV used to make me leave the room… no nails for me of any kind. Acrylics made me feel claustrophobic… I’m a freak
I gallop in gloves just because I’m a wuss and My entire finger will be covered in blisters… Love the Roeckl’s, but I’ll also go to the Nike outlet and get Golf or Baseball gloves, cause they’re thin and sometimes cheaper…
Didn’t use them yesterday and I paid in the form of a pretty blister on my ring finger ( cant take a normal cross with the one i was riding because she ‘turkey necks’ her way around the track)…
I’ve only ridden with acrylics once (my natural nails tear…they will not stay)…five got broken off…and it hurt. And I wasn’t doing anything more than flat work (granted the horse was totally nuts, but still).

Years ago the first time I had my nails done was for a wedding, I liked them so much I kept them on for work the next day…I had almost every single one come off, and between horses I shook out my gloves and carefully placed the pretty painted nails on the ledge of the barn…
I told everyone not to touch them…they were about $5 bucks apiece!!! My plan was to glue them back on myself… that didnt go to well!
I did eventually learn the ropes about good verses bad nail salons, and thank goodness the prices have gone down!
I even had a full set filed to “sport” length… I chewed each and every one off… and let me tell you that was a job I was like a freak gnawing at them. I once had them removed with acetone and my nails took something like 4 mos to get healthy again… Of course the gnawing didn’t help health either… :no:
Have I mentioned I HATE finger nails???
I’ve had acrylics on for 10 years, then went to gel for a few years, and am now back to acrylics. I break more nails working around the barn than I do riding. I’ve managed to loosen a few riding, but never just popped one off. I don’t even want to see what my natural nails would look like if I were to take the nails off for good.
