under the discussion forums, there is one called “off course”…and that is the off topic place you are refering to. Not sure there is a requirement for number of posts.
Off course is for horse related topics, but random ones, like circuses, or funny things you saw, or horse jewelry, or whatever, that don’t fit in the other disciplines (dressage, hunters, etc.) But it does have to be about horses.
Once in a while on holidays we get a special “off topic” section for talking about anything at all (movies, politics, family life, etc.) but it only exists for a few days, then goes away again.
“Off Course” is for posts that ARE horse related, but don’t fit neatly into any of the categories.
Periodically (usually associated with a holiday of some sort), the mods will declare an “off topic day”. That is when you can post non-horse-related stuff. The “off topic” forum is visible during the “off topic day”, and for a few days after.
If you want to post off topic stuff, you pretty much have to wait until the mods declare the next “Off Topic Day”

Exactly. and I hope it stays this way! OT days are fun, but I’m on another msg. board and they tried to split that into a General board (which was to be for all general dog training, breeding, etc. threads) and then a breed-specific side for threads just on that breed. What a nightmare! A handful of IDJITS post thread after thread after OT thread on the General forum, 99.9% of these OT threads are their extreme right-wing politics. They insist that since this is the “General” forum, equal to our Off Course, that therefore it’s for General topics [translation: therefore I can start multiple threads EVERY DAY bashing Obama]. It’s dreadful.

Typical knee jerk reaction when one has “Politics” on the brain (This affliction is far more dangerous to one’s mental health than the horse gene, IMHO) and so I ask - Why can’t we just all get along?
