Thank you! I agree that representation and location has so much to do with price. This is all great info for me to use.
Do you mean how much money do Pony Hunters cost compared to same skill set horses or how do they get to cost this much? The best PHs mostly lease, some have waiting lists.
Yes, curious about how much they cost vs same skill set in a horse.
About the same for the same quality, movement, talent and rideability. No size discountā¦fact maybe a premium for 1/8 inch short of max height for their section.
In my experience, having a kid who is recently off ponies, is that ponies are MUCH more expensive and there is waiting list for the good ones. I see ones that you can lease for the price you can buy a decent mid range horse. That is just from what I have seen, and mostly in the big programs. I think this is because making a pony can be much more difficult with rider size, tuning etc. Maybe a supply and demand issue.
Yeah, Ponies areā¦wellā¦when they were created, all the other 4 letter words were taken
Am taking AA Division Ponies here. They have to hack and model. But even a Childrenās Pony that a Child can actually get around (as opposed to a Semi Pro Pony Jock) is up there with comparable full size models.
Donāt even ask about the Short Stirrup Poniesā¦
Fascinating. I have a fancy large who is well on his way to being a very nice event pony, but have had more than one pony hunter person express interest after seeing him schooling. Heās pretty much my dream though, but maybe someday he decides he wants to go pack a kiddo around the hunters.
Or if you look outside the box of normal breeds. I know of a Belgian Warmblood-Section D Welsh colt, who will be well in to the 17 hand range as an adult as he was 14.2 as a 5 month old, and he is a gorgous mover, great brain. He will easily be a six figure horse with the right training, but I believe his breeder wants 15K for him.
