Wide Noseband Bridles - Canada

I know there have been many a lot of post about which brands people recommend for wide noseband bridles. I noticed a lot of the brands are not available in Canada, since the dollar is awful right now shipping, duty and exchanges are not worth it to ship! I was wondering if anyone had brands they suggest that are available in Canada? Thanks!

Bahrs has a pretty broad selection:

Interestingly, the Canadian dollar before Christmas had an exchange rate with the British pound that was better than I expected, when I ordered two pair deeply discounted Pikeur breeches from an British tack store. Two breeches plus shipping to Canada came in at under $300 while one pair of Pikeur’s locally run about $400 plus 12 % sales tax (and never go on sale). I think the British pound dropped after the Brexit vote.

The Canadian dollar rises and falls against the British pound indepdendently of what how it is doing against the American dollar.

The Mondega one from Greenhawk is okay. Or you could look at this one:

That is assuming you’re not going to splurge for a Dy’on or something

The Royal one greywithchrome linked to is surprisingly nice. They’re really popular out my way, along with other models by royal as well.

The Royals I’ve seen have been nicer leather than the Mondega, but the Mondega has a wider noseband. The Royal also fits bigger than the Mondega. A friend’s horse is too big for the O/S Mondega, but she had to punch a couple holes in the Royal O/S to make the throatlatch and noseband tight enough.

Royal sells on amazon too. Here’s a wide-nose one.

Love their stuff, tbh. Really haven’t found a rubber rein I like more…

What size in the Royal bridle, would an average size thoroughbred need?

I bought a Royal wide noseband from Willow Equestrian and found that the Horse/Regular bridle’s nose band was very small for my TB but the rest fit fine

Agreed with the Royal bridles. For the price, they are really nice leather. Their rubber reins are also amazing, I’ve replaced the reins on all of my bridles with them, they are my absolute favorite. I have had several bridles and a girth and I’ve always been pleased with the quality. I always order directly from bridles & reins, and if you get 1-5 items, you can get 10-50% off which makes it an even better deal! The only thing I hate is that they ship DHL, which is the most horrendous shipping company known to man.

My TB is 16.1 and is considered to be bigger through the body with a refined head. The horse/full figure-8/grackles fit fine on the bottom 8 and are looser on the top. I don’t mind, because I like the tops to be a bit looser, but I’m on the top hole.

They are bigger than the average horse/full bridle, so if your TB is small in a standard horse/full I would go down to cob in Royal sizing.

I have two - the Mondega wide-nose for schooling, and the Exselle Bromont for showing.

Exselle Bromont - I think the most common price for this bridle in Canada is typically around $250. I did manage to find it on sale for about $200 (with reins) and have been really happy with the quality. Mine is a few years old, but I would have happily paid full price, and I don’t have any regrets about not opting for something more high-end. Make sure to check it out in person - I find the pictures on many websites do not do it justice. Unfortunately I can’t find a close up pic off hand, but here is my horse wearing it: https://scontent.fxds1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/11665684_10102271080433981_4847549181455114435_n.jpg?oh=f3d2e9496d75d1a09b6b3fdda69b60fb&oe=5943FA02

The Mondega is a slightly lower price point, but honestly not worth the money. I picked one up used and it has been a good schooling bridle, but if I had paid full price, I would have been disappointed with the quality. For the extra $20-30, I would definitely opt for the Exselle.

I purchased a Nunn Finer at Vision Saddlery in Ottawa. Very happy with the quality and look. Nice wide nose band. I think it was around $400.

Riders Boutique carries the fancy wide noseband bridles. They are custom made. Expensive but worth the money. I have had one that has lasted 10 years and still looks nice.

Thanks for the replies! I already have the mondega wide nose band one, I do like it! I’ve looked at the royal ones before but I don’t want one with padding anymore. I really love the look of the Dy’on bridles, but not the price lol.

I think I’m going to look into the Exselle Hunter Derby bridle from Bahr’s, it looks similar to the Dy’on
