Wide port, double jointed ported d ring snaffle (bomber)

Has anyone used a bit like this? They advertise it as a segundo, but it does not have the nasty points. I have a mare that can be strong when she is fresh, & would like something she responds to, without coming behind the bit, on those days. Leans on a waterford, comes behind the bit on a kimberwick (very sensitive to the curb chain).

Also honestly sort of a bit hoarder & I don’t have one like that…

Also if anyone is familiar with the mechanics of how that bit works, would appreciate it.

I’ve used this. It’s effective in very, very educated hands and is a bit less “bite” than a traditional segunda. It was helpful on a horse that was learning not to lean into the corners in the hunter world when coming out of lines. I also played with sealtex wrapping the joints to create less play there which was well received, though took a bit playing around. But we only used it a few times before graduating to something a bit softer.

Thank you, that helps. When she has her head in the game, she goes nicely in a myler comfort d ring. When she has been off for a bit, I have a red dragon with 'tude & a middle finger who’s mission in life is to win the regional lawn dart championships.(even after longing).

Would only be used very occasionally to remind her I am up there.

How about their ported barrel bit?

interesting graphic - do they have it for any other of their bits?

I have no clue, I was just looking at the mouth and cheek piece and it came up on Google.

I’m interested in trying the same Bombers on a horse who goes similar to your mare. We toggle back and forth between a Myler and a tiny rubber pelham depending on the day (also does not like the curb), and have had great success with a Peter Pletcher, although we don’t want to use it all the time. That’s our go-to bit for shows.

I have used a pletchert her on her as well, goes decently in it, but it makes me nervous & I don’t want to use it all the time…

Also show AQHA - pletchert is not legal for them

I don’t really want to use the bomber all the time either, but need options for stupid days…
