Funny, I was coming on to post this. Back in my upstate NY days (1990’s) I was able to get to the track several times and pretty much everyone knew who Marylou Whitney was. But I never knew until today she married a man roughly 40 years younger than her! Pretty amazing, and he was carrying on her legacy.

I always remember the reference in the movie Guys and Dolls about the Whitney colors. Even though I think they actually got the colors wrong, as I understand it.

I did not realize that Marylou Whitney had donated the statue of Native Dancer that is right by the traffic light as you approach the town of Saratoga from the track.

And if I’m thinking of the right building, it looks like they did a nice job on the healthcare center for the backstretch workers. I think it’s the new building right next to the one that used to be the horse show office in past years.

Saratoga will not be the same for either of them. He was a good man carrying on her legacy and staying so involved in the local community
