Hello! There seem to be very few showing in certain (all?) divisions at WIHS this year. For instance, it looks like there are only 6 in the WIHS medal finals? The child/adult final numbers look low too. Are the low numbers just a result of the show being held at Tryon? Not a huge deal, just curious, thanks!
My best guess is that the Show Management System website isn’t fully updated. On the WIHS website, they have a minute-by-minute schedule that shows a full class (about 90 seconds for 40 rounds) at least for the eq finals. If you also look at the qualifying lists, there were 19 children’s hunters on the list and 19 showing today. The rest of the divisions showing today also don’t have large number disparities between the qualifying lists and the actual numbers showing. Odd that the entry lists don’t seem to be fully updated, but I think they will be filled out as the show runs on. Through Thursday seems to be fully filled out for now.
ETA: I also just looked at the divisions that run at least Thursday-Friday and the classes in the same division on Thursday are plentiful and Friday have almost nothing. So I think that further supports that the entry lists just aren’t updated.
The SMS website for WIHS is for some reason really behind on updating the entries. Yesterday they didn’t even have Thursday’s entries posted, now Thursday shows but Friday-Sunday are not yet populated. So, I don’t think it is really any different than last year’s entries, they are just behind on posting them.
I would think if anything, there would probably be more people who would want to show at WIHS at Tryon without all the logistical headaches of getting into downtown Washington with the horses. It’s not quite the same experience in some ways, but it’s a lot easier in others.
Especially this year, after so many people were locked down to some degree last year due to Covid.
I was surprised the pro and amateur hunter divisions seemed really light. I think historically Washington has taken less entries than other year end shows, but Tuesday and Wednesday’s numbers and results seemed a bit sad to me.
Thanks to everyone for their replies. The lack of updating on the Show Management System definitely seems to be the cause for the low numbers in the equitation, which was the most perplexing. Looks like the junior hunter divisions are strong. Only 13 today in the WIHS adult finals compared with about 27-28 in the NAL at Capital Challenge. I’m not sure. I do know a couple adults who qualified but didn’t show because it was not in DC. I think I would feel the same way. Even though it must a total pain to get there, there is something almost magical about seeing that ring all lit up that could never be replicated at an outdoor venue. The expense and trouble of having a show in a major city have got to be ridiculous, but I hope they bring it back to DC.
I’m pretty sure it wasn’t in dc this year due to conflicts with the capital one center and the hockey schedule. Fingers crossed for next year!
The Friday- Sunday schedule now seems fully filled out. There’s a full 40 riders in the WIHS medal.
Hello, anyone know why the live stream via USEF network is not including the 1.50 class today?
I’m not watching, but is it an FEI class? If so, maybe it is only available on FEI TV, or something like that.
