WIHS Is Anyone Else Watching?

CMH has been working just fine for me.

I refreshed a couple times and it’s been okay now.

Great ride by Brian Moggre!!

I can see the small screen on the CMH website now. Perhaps it will stay visible for the jump off.

AHHH! I just watched the finals of the WIHS. Really happy for all the riders and the winner :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve been watching on CMH and at the beginning it kept freezing. Fingers crossed it will work for the jump off.

Beat Mandli’s horse is

I’ll be happy with whomever wins now.

Well done Brian!

I’m waiting to see what Kent does. He’ll be the real tell.

Darn for Kent! Landon did very well for being 9, though

Yeah he just made a green mistake. Then Kent gave him a good confidence ride to the last two. Great jump off!

Pretty sure it’s completely different folks.

With that said, it is an absolute travesty that WIHS is now held at PG. All of the things that made it special for spectators were about being in the city, now it’s just Cap Challenge part 2, but apparently with less concessions and fun things around. They don’t even hold the regionals/local day at PG anymore.

I hope that the organizers find a better venue in the years ahead.

Did you ever show at WIHS when it was in the Verizon Center? It may have been cool for spectators but it is very very hard on the horses.

I disagree. WIHS did a beautiful job at PG this year and I feel that most of the riders I’ve talked to agree. The ring was stunning and the horse show was very well run. Capital Challenge is really over the top, on the other hand, they need to limit the number of entries, as the warm ups were dangerous and the busy nature of it was made worse by horrible weather. I will probably skip it next year (CC). Showing downtown for WIHS was cool, but unfair to the horses and a nightmare for trainers and riders trying to get the horses ready to show.

I care a lot less about the spectator experience than the equine experience, and at Verizon Center, that sucked. I’m a lot more likely to make WIHS a goal now that my horse could sleep in a real stall at night. I think PG is a great venue and look forward to the area infrastructure developing to support it, as was indicated in their master plan released when the venue change was announced.

What’s more important for a horse show? Amenities for spectators? Or decent conditions for the horses?

The set up with the stalls in tents on the street in the city, among many other things, was not very horse friendly.

The thing that I feel is the biggest downside to moving it out of the city is that it was one place where the sport could connect to people outside of its own little bubble. Folks used to take the metro just to come down and see the horses. Now that it’s out in PG, nobody will go except for the people who are already in that world. I feel like horses is probably the sport that is most disconnected from everyday reality with the exceptions of sailing or rowing, maybe.

I do agree that it’s better for the horses. But I also don’t think any lasting damage was done to them when they came into the city.
