Wild bunnies, are shelled almonds okay

Its so very cold, and I saw “my” wild bunny’s tracks in the snow.
I put out a quarter slice of apple, diced and a small handful of almonds on a plate in the snow.

I am rethinking it now, are almonds okay or will they make him sick? If okay, how much is too much?

I will have to run out and remove it quickly if its not good for him.
Thanks in advance.

Never mind, I threw away all but one almond and put out two little pieces of pumpernickel bread. So its one almond, two bites of bread and minced apple slice.

I dont know how he/she survives the cold. Im rooting for him/her.

bunny would likely gain more from some alfalfa, timothy or parsley than the nuts.

the nuts wont make the rabbit sick ( not toxic) they just don’t provide the nutrition the rabbit can gain most use from.

Thank you for responding. I dont have any of that (alfalfa, timothy or parsley) in my kitchen.
Back in the dark ages ( my childhood) we gave our bunny all vegetables to pick at.
And rabbit chow. I was really taken aback when googling that you shouldn’t give them celery as I remember giving my pet bunny that.

Celery is fine - it just has to be in small (1 inch) piece, as the celery strands can get tangled up and cause issue (like eating string or yarn would cause issue).

Next time you’re at the barn, grab some hay. Timothy is best. 1 flake last a bunny a longgggg time.

And because I like telling everyone how adorable my bunny is, here are Spock (bunny) and Bones (cat) eating some wheat grass (aka cat grass): https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10201224087598639&l=1167279608235515480

The squirrels and chipmunks and raccoons will love the nuts. I don’t know if a rabbit would eat them. However, wild animals in general will not eat a food that is bad/poisonous. They have much better instincts that a domesticated dog, for example. If you want to toss out stuff for the bunny, definitely grab some hay.

If you don’t have access to hay, just buy a bag of carrots at the store, or a bunch of apples, or a head of cabbage or broccoli.

Very cute PP, do you a Kirk to go with Spock and Bones?
Guin, I diced a quarter of an apple. I had to make it diced, I want him to fit the whole little piece in his mouth, so he has a decent chance of melting it.
Brrrr. And it’s going to snow/ice for 24 hours again.
At least we are used to it.

No Kirk - I kind of hate that name! I might do a Tiberius. When I get a dog, he will be named Khan, so I can yell “Khannnnnnn!” dramatically whenever I call him.

takes off trekkie hate
