Will they breed Zenyatta again?
She’s been left I think two years now, unless they bred her back on the sly. I haven’t heard a peep.
The phrase “on the sly” implies that some sneaky, clandestine act is taking place.

If a mare’s owner breeds her without informing the entire world via the internet not only is that not sneaky, it’s just basically living real life.

Apropos of nothing, I still harbor great distaste for the caretakers of Secretariat that let him get so fat and founder at the young age of 19. INEXCUSABLE.
I visited that farm in 2012, the year before Pulpit passed. He was also very fat . He died of a heart attack I believe. Not surprising. If I remember correctly, he was the same age as Secretariat, 19.

Of course the genetics aren’t the exact same but it is better than not having a full sister to breed in her absence. Small consolation I am sure.
I genuinely know nothing about her-is she a proven easy breeder? Since RA’s problem seems to stem from her dam.

Dismount your drama llama. It implies they did it without telling anyone.
Secretariat had cushings disease that led to his crestiness and laminitis. We definitely didn’t know much about cushings back then.
Cushings has been around forever. I remember reading about it in books as a teenager. Fat, cresty, non shedding, etc. If I knew about it, Seth Hancock and Claiborne Farms sure as heck should have.

The drama was yours.

lol Danceronice. Might as well concede the discussion. You are arguing a point on the meaning/use of words with an award winning author. Words are her business and she is very good at what she does.

I was indeed confusing Z. with R.A. Thanks for clearing things up!

In a NY Times article last week on RA’s owner (she ran Carpe Diem in the Kentucky Derby) it said Rachel Alexandra’s “breeding days were over.” There were not any more details.

And I’m a writer (who knows how you get awards so I’m not impressed.) I wasn’t aware “clever” is a negative connotation.

Zenyatta is 36 days in foal to War Front.
