Will Trump place tariffs on imported horses?

Canada announced this $1.3 billion border plan WHEN BIDEN WAS PRESIDENT, WEEKS AGO

Fascinating.

Iā€™m not sure how much dumping the 2 reservoirs will change the horse industry, but apparently it flooded some Central Valley farmland, and if thereā€™s a drought this summer, that water will be sorely missed.

Why am I not surprised?

Hey the tariff stuff is horse-related, in my case. Living off investments, the 20% stock market drop, if sustained or worse, could mean I have to put my horse down.

Very good observation. The market plummeted today, then recovered when the tariffs were paused. Those of us horse owners who are retired and have 401ks or pensions are impacted by these shenanigans. Apparently Wall Street went ape on Trump this weekend about the economic impacts of the tariffs and that may have been one reason why he backed off.

This is the delusional thinking that drives me batty. Just consider how long it takes to secure land and financing, get the permits, construct the building/arrange the logistics, and then hire and train a workforce to make American widgets.

To keep this horse related, I suppose this means we need to breed, raise and start more American-bred horses so people donā€™t need to import them. Gee, if we get going now that should only takeā€¦ about four years.

Caved? Thatā€™s one way of looking at it. Or, the retaliatory tariffs from Canada all of a sudden made the offer that Canada made weeks ago regarding border security look not so bad after all.

Mmmmm stop talking facts. šŸ«

They did not cave.

Mexico ā€œagreedā€ to stuff they were already doing as noted above.

Canada ā€œagreedā€ to the border plan they announced back in December and were already implementingā€¦ and added a cookie of a fentanyl czar who will not have much to do.

I wish we could leave the moderating to the mods and not just toss flags around like bad NFL referees. I know, I knowā€¦ crazy concept.

So it seems that with the tariff plan on hold, you can import horses from Canada willy nilly.

As Scribbler has pointed out, nothing that Trump has announced is new. Our news media has been reporting for weeks that this is what was being offered to Trump. Canadians were beginning to wonder exactly what did Trump wanted as he kept moving the goal posts and insulting us. Trump got nothing extra with his tariff threat except a lot of bad will in the future from Canadians. No doubt the CEOā€™s of the big American companies came to their senses and realized tariffs would hurt their bottom-lines and stock price. Stock market was defiantly not amused by Trumpā€™s behavior. Even crypto reacted badly.

Um, Canada did not cave.
We matched the tariffs and then several provincial premiers said they would pull the US liquor off the shelves.
Trump finally talked to Trudeau on the phone - something Trudeau has been seeking since the inauguration.
And thenā€¦they agreed to continue to do the things that were mostly on the books already.

Doesnā€™t matter sadly. He will proclaim victory and his followers will lap it up. Who knows what would have actually happened in the horse market. It was always a smoke and mirrors.

Iā€™m pretty close, and I feel the same way.
