Wind Puffs

I recently realized that in several of the horses I ride I commonly notice wind puffs coming up on their legs at this time of year. The three horses that come to mind do not typically get wind puffs commonly at any other time of year, but in the Fall for some reason they all seem to have several! Has anyone else noticed this in their horses?

Edit- it is worth noting that these three horses have varying work loads. One is in heavy work, one average work, and the other has been in light work during the time these wind puffs have appeared.

Are you sure it’s not the effect of hair making existing wind puffs more noticeable? My mare has them on both hinds, worse on the right. PPE indicated no issues, and they are sometimes bigger/puffier than others but I hadn’t noticed a seasonal change. Hmmm…Now I’ll have to keep better track! Interested to hear what others say!

If they are getting less turnout (ie coming in earlier) as the days get shorter, that could certainly be a factor? Especially since multiple horses are having them pop up. More time in stall = more fluid build up.

It could also be that they’re just more noticable with winter fuzz on top, like Calvincrowe suggested too.
