So my DD and DH and I are watching the STB races tonight, and a thought I had watching the driver and horse head back to the winners circle is that most of the STB tracks have a song picked by the driver, that they play. My DH used to drive so I asked him what he would have picked. He said no idea. If I had the guts to actually race (I’ve only jogged one horse twice) I’d pick I’m Walking On Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves. So after all that preamble, if they did the same thing at shows or whatever equine event you are involved in, what song would you choose?
The biggest Arabian horse shows do that, often using a song that plays off the horse’s name. It’s really fun. Usually, the music starts playing before the award winner is announced, so it makes for a fun moment as the realization dawns on the rider, owner, and other connections.
My current Half Arabian show horse is named TCR Accidentaly Dunit. If we ever win a big class, I hope Maroon 5’s “Accidentally In Love” gets played.
My mare’s show name is “Centerfold” so that lends itself to an obvious song choice!
My other mare’s registered name has “Jesse” in it… another obvious song choice.
But for me, I’d pick “Three Days Straight” by Ray Wylie Hubbard.
The William Tell overture by Rossini,
or
The Little Train of the Caipira by Villa Lobos.
Sort of on topic but not quite, my husband does Liberty class with his mini to Wipe Out by the Surfaris and Mr. Big Stuff by Jean Knight.
ZZ Top’s Sharp Dressed Man fit my welsh pony, he has four perfect socks and a blaze.
Ooooh!
Now I almost want to do a Liberty class with my mini.
His showname is Wascally Wabbit, so we’d use the Looney tunes theme
Wonky knees make it a NoGo
Well, that & his 'tude

When we did the VSE division at Villa Louis, the organist played the Mighty Mouse song, It’s a Small World & Hold That Tiger
My pony is named after a dead rapper so it was startling when we heard the music choice.
