Wintec/Arena/Bates gullet size for Arabians?

Just curious…if you have an Arabian and ride in one of these saddles…which gullet size fits your Arab the best?

It’s way more about their individual build, than a generic breed built. Some are very round and need more like hoop trees. Some are very A-framed.

i do find most Arabians need a hoop tree, so aren’t well suited to WIntec trees/gullets. That said, my super wide mare did fit a Wintec Wide saddle quite well…with the XXW gullet.

how wide is she? I’m not ‘there’ yet, but i’m working on training a very wide horse right now. He’s about 16h, big shoulder, wide flat back, not curvey at all. I’d say riding him is going to be like sitting on a sofa. He’s still learning to wear a halter, so i’m months away… but i don’t have a saddle on the whole farm that would fit him. Maybe i’ll try a Wintec Wide. Do they come synthetic or are they all leather? From Wintec’s website it’s hard to tell. The Wintec Pro Wide looks nice. I think i like it.

My Arab cross mare, who tends to be very wide during most of the year (she’s an air fern), goes very nicely in a regular Wintec (not the wide version) with the white (extra wide) gullet.

wintecs are all fully synthetic. Bates is the leather line with some overlap in models.

good to know. I like synthetic saddles.

My guy is very wide and we finally found a saddle that didn’t move and it was glorious. I could FEEL how good he felt with that saddle and it was how he went bareback. A Kent and Masters dressage saddle and we were often in one of the widest bars. We tried Bates, Lovatt and Ricketts and a few more first and they would all move forward onto his scapula.

Hope this helps.

My polish Arabian is quite wide but he does well with the XW gullet in a Wintec Dressage saddle
