Looking for recs on winter riding boots. The ones I have are (ahem) a bit snug and I’m riding outside all winter (in MA). I’ve got winter paddock boots that work well but am looking for a pair of tall boots. What’s the latest?
Fellow MA resident here. I got an older pair of these as a gift a few years ago, and they’ve held up great and are very toasty:

Mine ran a bit big, not sure if that is still the case.
I like my Ariat Coniston Pros a lot. They look nice, are waterproof, and are warm. The laces give a bit of room for error on sizing, though I wish mine were a bit looser in the calf as winter socks and breeches take up more space than their summer counterparts.
I keep getting the Mountain Horse Active Rider winter boots. They last several years, riding multiple horses per day, water proof and pretty warm. I can wear them with thick socks down to 40F and be comfortable. I’ll add neoprene toe warmers down to 30F. If it’s below 30F, I’ll use the disposable toe warmers.
I forgot I did try those and had them for a bit. They were so clunky IMO and not as warm as the Ariats I have now.
Yeah, I like the look/sound of the Conistons. But the ones I have that are a bit snug are Ariats, so I’m worried that the Conistons will also be too narrow. I don’t understand why there aren’t more wide options in winter boots.
I may have to try the ones Beowulf recommends.
I don’t own these but a lady I used to ride with swears by these boots in the winter with a wool insole added.
I have the Ariat Conistons as well; they’re well into their third year of use. They’ve held up well and they’ve consistently kept my feet (and legs!) warm and dry.
The front laces allow you to vary the width of the leg and really customize how they fit.
I also see that Adams has a small number of sizes on pretty deep discount so you might want to check them out:
I have yet to find a winter boot to keep my feet warm but one thing I started doing last winter was spraying my feet with antiperspirant. That definitely helps me.
In the winter i change stirrups to 5 inch irons and then i can wear muck boots when i ride, the hoser kind. When i double layer socks …just thinish, cheap normal Target brand synthetic socks, my feet stay warm all day…in or out of the saddle.
I have a pair of mountain boots but haven’t taken them out of the box. In two years! Dunno what i’m ‘saving’ them for lol. Maybe this year i’ll use them…
