Winter Breeches?

Its been a few years since I bought my kerrits fleece lined winter breeches, and I have a tuffrider pair too - but I don’t see anything like them anymore - what brands & styles do you like for winter (in Canada) riding?

I have Kerrits tights and Ovation breeches. I like them both, but the Ovations are thicker and warmer.

My favorites were made by Boink Catalog out of Colorado…but no more. They closed. So I am interested in the answers.

Another vote for kerrits. I used to own a pair of fleece lined full seat cavellos that I bought from Equestrian Factory Outlet for a steal, but (sadly, haha) outgrew them. The cavellos looked better for sure, however, didn’t beat the kerrits in the warmth department. Since it’s the end of season, might be worth keeping an eye on Pleasant Ridge sales.

I also loved by Boink ones - was sad to hear they closed. Now I have a pair of Tropical Riders - don’t remember the style name, but I think they just have one type of winter breeches. Very warm, very comfy. I have the extended knee patch type. Love them!

In Boston here and I adore my Fits winter breeches but I like Fits. If you aren’t a fan of the look in general, it doesn’t get any better with a quarter inch of fleece added into the mix. That said, they are toasty and wind proof without being bulky or noisy.

Yes - FITS. I also have one Kerrit and one Iridion. All seem to work pretty well.

I live in my Tropical Rider Winter breeches, very warm, comfortable, and if you get deerskin or lambskin, very nice stick in the saddle. I layer my BOT pants under, and keeps me very cozy.

Buckwild Winter Breeches have been my salvation this winter…when it has been sooooo cold.

I also love my Cavallos, but am having the same “problem.” My Irideon winter breeches don’t have the same issue because they are very stretchy. The soft shell outer of the Cavallos restricts how much they stretch.

I’m going to third these breeches – they are fabulous! So comfortable and warm, and the lambskin extended patch is very sticky without being thick and uncomfortable.

I got them on sale, quite reasonably priced for what you get! Definitely worth every penny and I have to force myself to wear other breeches when they get dirty and I have to wash them

I have (and love) 3 pairs of FITS, but I have to say I was underwhelmed by the winter pair I have, really not much stick at all and they were advertised as “full seats”. They are warm, though – and very comfortable.

I also have Kerrits - love my lightweight ones, and I do have a pair of sit tight and warm in a drawer somewhere, but I haven’t worn them in years because I just found them to be too thick.

I have a pair of the Kerrits long johns, and since I bought them, I haven’t worn my winter breeches–I just wear the Kerrits under my regular breeches, and they’re super toasty. I don’t know if they still make them, but they were a set in purple; the bottoms come to mid-calf, so they fit easily under breeches and winter socks without making them feel bulky. I have a few pairs of winter breeches from different companies, and none of them have been as warm or comfy.

I use the Pikeur winter soft shell breeches. I have not found warmer ones.

I have a pair of Irideon fleece lined tights which are super cozy and warm. Big negative is they don’t have pockets. Love the color though and they hold up well. TuffRider does still make winter breeches, which I recently purchased on Amazon. I actually like these better than the Irideon and they were half the price!

I’ve been using Irideon Wind Pros for years, and really like them. I need extra room in the waist and they are very stretchy. However, they changed the design this year so they have the sock-style lower leg to go under high boots. I was able to track down a pair of the regular style last fall. They made the same change to their Cadence breeches but had to revive the old ones that are now called Classic, I think.

I fourth Tropical Rider Toasties. I like that I can choose from different patch sizes and materials. (Clarino, deerskin, lambskin, etc.)
They’re super warm and comfy. I’m going to try the Toasties Lite next, as I sweat like crazy and want something lighter for fall.

Really? My winter FITS has the exact same perforated deer skin patches as my summer weight. Very sticky and comfortable. I stay away from their non-deerskin pants because they either seem to be a) not sticky or b) noisy in the saddle.

My favorite is the Pikeur winter breeches (if you buy them online from Amira in the UK, they are actually cheaper even with shipping…at least they were the last time I ordered some). I have also used the Tropical Rider toasties…but I find the Pikeur are more comfortable and just as warm.

These are what I have:

They are the Techtread - NOT grippy at all, alas :disillusionment:

I wear the Kerrits and Tropical Rider breeches. I prefer my Kerrit boot cut wind pro’s and wear those the most. The Tropical Riders I have to peel myself off the saddle. If I’m really cold I wear my cuddle duds underneath.
