I have been riding through winters here in North Georgia, where we get wind chills down into the teens at times, and never had a problem before, just usually using my regular year round Roeckl Chester gloves and occasionally adding a silk glove liner on severe days. But this year its not enough for some reason. Already had couple rides that within 15-20 minutes of riding in 39-40 degree temps with wind chill in the mid to high 20s my fingers are going numb. Wondering if someone can recommend good winter gloves that are not too bulky as I am use to very thin gloves. Thanks.
I very much like thin gloves. I hate bulk and I hate the feeling of restriction as I close my fingers. But my fingers seem to get colder and colder as every winter passes. I find that I can get away with thinner fleece gloves if I’m dressed in very warm layers (including fleece breeches) and I need to get rid of heat through my hands. Other than that:
I like Roeckl fleece gloves in weather going down into the low 40s. I think they have good feel and they keep my fingers warm. However, ini lower temps last year my fingers got very cold. So just last week I invested in the SSG winter training gloves. The seem really warm and not incredibly bulky around the fingers. They are leather on the outside and I think they’ll work in to be pretty comfortable gloves.
The Roeckl Warwick fleece gloves are nice. The silicone grippers wore off pretty quickly but I ride with rubber reins so that didn’t matter to me. This winter I purchased the RSL Davos. I wore them today while cleaning stalls and feeding, wonderful gloves. They are light weight, streamlined and warm!
I like a nice thin glove too. Kerrits has ones that aren’t too bulky. I’ve had a pair for a while and they’ve been holding up pretty good.
I guess if you don’t like bulky, mittens are out of the question? I ride in these

with silk gloves underneath. I ride to about -15C and they keep my hands pretty warm.
Where do you get silk gloves, and have you ever seen silk socks for sale.
I live in WI, where the actual air temperature (without accounting for wind chill) is frequently in the negatives. I have tried a ton of winter riding gloves, and found the SSG Winter Training Gloves to be the best out there in terms of feel/fit and warmth.

I’m pretty picky about the feel of gloves. I also like the Roeckl gloves, for example. These are absolutely thicker than the Roeckls, but they still allow substantial mobility. I don’t notice them when I ride, which is my “litmus test” for gloves.
I also love the SSG Winter Training Gloves. Lost my pair at a show last November and suffered all winter; just bought a new pair. They’re very flexible and non-bulky but also very warm.
SSG Winter Training Glove. I have no problems with “feel”, despite the fact that they appear bulky. I suspect it’s the quality of the leather. They also last a long time.
I have these (I think–mine are leather with insulation, can’t tell from the picture if it’s the same).

They’re thin enough for buckling things but are decently warm. I use them down into the single digits.
I like the Heritage Extreme Winter gloves: https://www.smartpakequine.com/heritage-extreme-winter-gloves-9807p?cm_sp=CS--Heritage%20Extreme%20Winter%20Gloves--NA&cm_vc=Rec
They’re not particularly bulky for a winter glove, I drove a carriage in them for several winters and could handle money, credit cards and write with them on just fine. I live in Indiana so its colder here than where you are. They’re nice to ride in too. Not too bulky, but plenty warm for the 20-40F range.
I like the SSG 10 Below’s a bunch https://www.smartpakequine.com/ssg-10-below-winter-gloves-9878p?cm_sp=CS--SSG%2010%20Below%20Winter%20Gloves--NA&cm_vc=Rec
They are much bulkier than the Heritage ones and I’m not a huge fan of riding in them, but they are warmer. They were great through the polar vortex shenanigans last winter when it was -20F here. I don’t wear them a bunch unless I’m riding outside and its extremely windy that day.

I’m pretty sure I get my silk gloves from Greenhawk although I don’t see them on the site now.
Also I wear the SSG Winter training gloves just for work in the spring and fall. For my they would not be warm enough to ride in in the winter.

most outdoor shops have silk or technical fabric liners
Seems like SSG Winter Training gloves have the most fans, so will try them this weekend at Dover :O) Thanks all.
I love, love the SSG “ranch” gloves. They look thick, but when your hands are on the reins they allow a great deal of “feel” and are super warm.
My BO and I have converted to these very cost-effective runners’ gloves from Costco. They are simply the BEST winter glove I’ve ever had and I’m going to purchase another pair for everyday use. They have grippers on the fingers and the palm and are thin enough to not interfere with rein usage.

Another thumb up with the SSG Winter Training Glove. Used them for several seasons and still going strong - until this year that is, when I cannot for the life of me find them:(. Isn’t it weird that they are always dangling in front of your eyes when you don’t need them, and simply go poof when you do?

I’m glad you asked. We’re in GA also and I think we’re in for another cold winter.
I like the SSG all weather gloves. Not too bulky but enough for Va winters. Maybe you can try some Hot Hands warmers.
SSG Winter Training Glove felt too bulky for me just in the store, so I tried everything Dover had in the store for winter gloves, and ended up with SSG Winter Show Gloves. Not sure when I will ride in them but hope they work!
