Does anyone have recommendations for a winter riding vest (not safety vest) or jacket for a short torso? Most bunch up around the middle on me when I’m in the saddle and are not flattering at all and my trainer can’t see my position very well. I also don’t want thick down (thin is fine) because I run hot in the winter. Thanks!
I like the Amazon Basics ones actually. And I don’t feel bad if they get beat up. They have a few different thicknesses
Thank you! I just looked and they all look long though, they end at the hip and I really need them to end at the waist.
Following with interest…
As a short person, I think it’s key to find one that unzips from both the top and bottom. Then you can unzip the bottom a few inches when you’re in the saddle which tends to reduce the bunching.
I’m tall and have a long torso however I absolutely hate wearing jackets that have a zipper end right on the cantle and scratching it when I ride
I’m not sure about non-horsey clothing brands, but I do know that Ariat makes their jackets and vests a bit shorter in the zipper to avoid this scenario. The wear their Ideal Down vest practically every day in the cooler seasons. It doesn’t have a double ended zipper as the precious poster suggested, but many of their jackets do!
I struggle with this problem, compounded with the fact that I won’t buy down fill, and I want a chest pocket for my phone.
The only thing that works for a couple of my vests is to roll them under while riding.
The thinnest, best fit I have is a Marmot vest that isn’t made anymore (else I’d buy more!). It looks similar to this one though: https://www.marmot.com/women/jackets-and-vests/insulated-and-down/womens-novus-lt-hybrid-vest/AFS_195115063238.html
Kerrits quilted jackets are great and have a double zipper, which I love. I have a short torso as well.
For anyone interested, I ended up trying the Ariat Ashley vest and the Kerrits Transition vest. Both fit well, I like the fit of the Ashley better, but it was too insulated and I got too warm riding in it (in 30 degrees - I run very warm!) so the Kerrits is the one for me! I don’t really need a vest to keep warm, just like the look of them and have always skipped them because they make me too warm unless it’s <20 degrees and then my arms get cold and I’d rather have a jacket than a vest.
On that note, I also snagged their Riders Delite quilted jacket on sale from Smartpak, the last one in my size. It looks like it’s being discontinued and the newer model is more insulated - probably good for most people but not me!
