Hi there
I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks to maximize outdoor riding in a sand ring? I heard some people in Alberta use salt?
Thanks
Jen

Keep it dragged daily.
Might help to know where you’re located. Around here, you could drag daily, which would be great until it freezes rock solid and you don’t have a serious conditioner to break it up.
Oh good point I’m in southern Ontario
Im near Kingston, ON and there is nothing that can be done to keep our outdoor sand rings from freezing solid. I don
t know anyone who rides outdoors once the real winter sets in.
Not only is the sand frozen, with all the freeze-thaw-freeze weather we`ve had for a few years the ground/footing turns to glare ice.
If it`s not too cold and windy and there’s no ice, hacking around our hay fields is an option.
We board one of our ponies at a place with an indoor from November to May
I’m close to you, if there is no snow/ice we can easily ride in our outdoor all winter. I just keep it dragged so it doesnt get the initial big freeze! Of course any snow or rain that freezes can ruin that…but we have ridden in our outdoor throughout the winter on nice days!
Well… you must be braver than the rest of us!
Riding outside in minus temperatures + windchill… not to mention sand that is like concrete… is not for me. Guess I’m getting old…
lol well I am pretty tough when it comes to weather I guess
Ours only gets like concrete if its icy!
