I thought some would appreciate the thoughts of Curtis Stock regarding this end to racing at Northlands, a facility that hosted both breeds for 118 years, and the idiots in charge have decided to flush the tradition down the proverbial toilet like something nasty. For the record, I was there in 1982, and long before and after that but was not there for the October 13 card- just a little too far for a fast zip to the track. I remember many stakes races at Northlands, on both the old half mile track and the 5/8 track that replaced it in the early 70s, 1974 if I recall. I remember watching Troublemaker take the Breeder’s Crown over hometown favourite On The Road Again; I recall watching Cam Fella race there, and other lesser, hell, unknowns such as Native Stream, Skol, Stormin Stephen, Neeboots……all horses bred in Western Canada.
