Womanly-sized riders, unite!

I’m back to report on the breeches I ordered (and other stuff).

I got Tuff Riders in a size 36 - they were AWFUL. So awful I don’t think I’ll ever try something again from that brand. The breeches fit pretty much everywhere - the waist was actually a bit BIG! It had one of those really wicked uncomfortable waistbands sewn onto the inside of the waist… and the material was disgusting.

The on course Low rises fit really well in the waist and the rise was good but the legs were toooo looonnggg again.

The Riding Sport ones I got were the corduroy ones… I really loved them and hoped they would fit and they did fit everywhere EXCEPT the waistband was too tight and had no stretch.

My experience with HISPARS:
Theres a lot I can say about them… but what it comes down to is… the calves of the boots are shaped like funnels. I mean they just keep getting wider and wider as you go to the top of the boot. The way they do the zipper in the back is UGLY. Other than that… the leather is pretty nice and the styling otherwise is pretty nice. I got a pair and sent them to be altered :shortened and taken in… the repair guy shortened them but didn’t take them in because he was concerned with how much money it was getting to be. I was going to send them back to finish getting them altered … but then the lady at the store I bought the hispars from told me about the new Devon Aires and I think I’m just going to try them. I feel like I’m pissing in the wind trying to get these Hispars to fit and I have a friend that they might fit as they are now.

So I’m still on the search for good fitting breeches.

Devon-Aire XXW

I saw them in the dealer catalog that was sent out in the past few weeks. I was at my fav tack shop - she immediately called Devon-Aire to confirm the sizing and order them. The XXW only comes in the Nouvelle zip, she charged me $150 (I think they are $199 most other places). Her web site is http://northcountrytackbox.com/. They are on a back order, but she assured me that they will come in.

Thanks for this tread, twinkltoz (sorry if I just misspelled that…). I just realized we live near each other! (Even nearer when they complete that bridge at the end of 2008). :)

I am also a huge fan of the Irideon breeches, I have 3 pair of them. Only weird thing was that the XL’s were bigger than the 1X ones…

I also wear long (tight) underwear to, uh, lessen the orange peel affect.

Also, for women who are well endowed on top the No Bounce bra has been a savior to me!!! I bought 2 of them 5 years ago, but then had to go down one size and bought 2 more. They really last. I have been wearing the original 2 I bought throughout my pregnancy the past 9 months. I think Oprah endorsed it at one point in time. If you do buy it, make sure you read the instructions or else you might think it is sized wrong (which I did-who needs stinking instructions, I was so eager to try the damn thing on-, and before almost bursting out in tears I read the instructions and they did fit).

With all this talk about long-waisted and short-waisted I found this site that gives you a way to determine which you are if you are unsure (like I was):

http://www.stylephyle.com/experts/long.html

Hey, I know where Loomis is!

My favorite breeches are Equissentials. They are the most flattering I’ve had. I used to love the Kerrits when I was smaller, but now I feel like I look too poochy in them.

Well, I am about to go on another ordering spree and see if I can’t find something that will fit me. -sigh-

I really wish On Course would make their breeches a little shorter… other than the loooong legs they always fit great :frowning:

Have any of you tried Wind & Withers Tack Company?

http://www.windandwithers.com/

They have plus-size clothing (may even have the Devonaire Nouvelle field boots in XXW).

I just now found their site while Googling dressage saddles.

Good lord how did I never find this thread before…

I am in a boot crisis-- 16 1/8" calves and no off-the-racks in site will fit.

Just found the Nittany Boot store on Ebay but am reluctant… [/QUOTE]

And well you should be. Read up thread for some bad experiences with Nittany.

Hey There-

anyone know where i can find a plus size gray show coat- for a decent price- cant seem to find any that are bigger then a size 18- i need like a 24.

thnx!

Nicole

(p.s. im new, how can i change my “greenie” to something else?)

Hi Nicole, and welcome. The Greenie designation will change when you hit a certain number of posts. If you look at the Frequently Asked Questions forum, there is a topic about that.

I don’t know anything about Nittany boots, but for those folks who are hard to fit, I just got a pair of Rectliigne semi-custom boots. They are $298 base price + $30 for the customizing. (I also got different soles than the standard and that was another $10). So, $335 for semi customs.

I’m riding dressage now, so the model I got was the “Jackson” which is classed as a dress jumping boot. However, the shaft of the boot is fully lined and the style is not as fitted as some of the jumping boots are now.

Semi-custom means that the foot is the standard (European) size, but they make the shafts according to your measurements.

The leather is quite nice, the workmanship is good. They are stiff, so have been wearing them around the house, so far, so good. Haven’t ridden in them yet, but they seem like they should be fine.

Rectiligne is a French company. Their top of the line boots look gorgeous (and are pricey). There’s a tag inside one of my boots and these were actually made in Romania - took a while to get them, and I’d guess that’s why.

Anyway, another option for those of you looking for boots.

Breeches? For me, Equissentials! Best quality, deerskin is wonderful (can’t stand Clarino in fullseats - sitting on cardboard, yuck.)

Jackets? I’ve got an Ovation, 100% wool, size 24 dressage coat. It is the frock style and relatively flattering. I believe Ovation may also make huntcoats in the larger sizes. I’m also going to try the Isabel Werth line - it looks like her coats also come in larger sizes. Reason for a second coat, they are light weight (it gets VERY hot here in the summer and wool + 90 degrees = disgusting) and they are stretchy which I love. I’ll report back. My local tack store owner/friend has an Isabel Werth shadbelly in stock. It’s two sizes smaller than the one I’m ordering, but I tried it on (which was fun in a fantasyland sort of way) and I could actually get it on, although I wouldn’t try to breath in it or anything drastic like that. So I’m hopeful that the larger size will fit me and I might be able to ride in it.

thanks!

And I wish I could find some long enough =( For jeans I need a 36" inseam, preferably a 38". . . every pair of breeches I have stop above my ankles,
several inches. Wearing breeches with paddock boots is a joke for me. I think
the most comfortable and best fitting pair I’ve gotten so far has been a pair of Ovation breeches. The On Course ones I have are way too short, even their longs (I’m 6’1"). I’ve been wanting to try some equissentials for a long, long time, everyone raves about them. I’ve not been able to find a hunt or dressage coat to fit me yet accross the shoulders.

Boots, forget it. I went through four pairs including having zips put into a pair of ariats . . .none fit. I have very high arches that made it nearly impossible to get them on. I was so frustrated, I gave up. Hubby finally gave me a present and let me spring for a pair of dehners since we were temporarily in Iowa anyway. I got them and they seem impossibly tall, I know they have to settle, but I haven’t worn them much yet. They have full zippers as far down as they could go. I can get them on at least.

Glad to know it’s not just me that has a hard time finding riding clothes that fit.

Ooooh. Where did you order those from? Google isn’t being very helpful…

MEP, would you mind sharing your measurements so I can see how close the Ovation coat would be for me? PM would be fine, or email twynkltoz@yahoo.com. Thanks!

MEP, I’m curious too. Would you mind telling us what size you’d normally wear up top? (In a coat, that is. I know that frequently you have to buy a riding coat 2 or 3 sizes larger than a regular coat.)

Thanks.

I normally wear a size 18-20 or somewhere between XL and 1X depending on what month it is, time of day, what I had for dinner, how I slept the night before, what’s on tv, the weather, etc. etc. (you know what I mean!)

The ovation jacket is very reasonably priced as I recall. The Isabell Werth jackets are $235 +/-. Not cheap, but certainly not as expensive as some of the others.

For the boots, Rectiligne has a website:

http://www.e-rectiligne.com/

It has some pictures and limited information about their products. They have a directory of dealers who carry their products worldwide. If you can’t find anyone near you, I can ask my local tack shop person if she can order for folks in other areas. I’m always asking her about items I’ve seen in magazines or heard about somewhere, and she’s great at finding stuff for me. I read about Rectiligne boots somewhere, and lo and behold, she had their catalogue. I had some chaps by M.Decima I bought years ago, and turns out that Rectiligne carries them, or reps them or something, so I was familiar with the quality, and took a chance ordering them.

my friends tack store is:

http://www.englishhabit.com

She also got the Ovation jacket for me.

Twnkltoz, I used to live in Walnut Creek. hee, hee, hee.

Just a warning: the zippers on these are a complete POS. I own the Nouvelle Zips in 8.5 XXW and while they do fit quite nicely around my calf, the zipper is constantly coming unzipped (and not from the top down–it splits in the middle and then I have to hassle with getting the zipper to go back down.

FWIW, I bought mine for $110 on Ebay last summer, so for $110, I am still satisfied with the performance.

The Stateline Tack in Roseville, CA is having a clearance sale on Body Chemistre stuff! I got two pairs of XL riding pants (retail price $79) for $10 each! They fit about like a 38. Unfortunately, no drawstring in the waist to tighten it up so they do tend to ride down. Glad I didn’t pay full price, but i’m very happy with them for $10! They’ll be nice and cool in the summer.
